    Educate me, please!

When should I switch from puppy food to adult food? What brands do you suggest and can someone educate me on what percentages of protein and fat a dog under 1 year should have. Oakley is almost 6 months old and I want to start my research of adult dog foods now.

I feed an all stages food. Linus was on PP Sport 30/20 for his first year and then moved to a kibble that wasn't too far off when he exhibited allergies. Sam was about the same. I think it depends on the dog. Lines. Activity. How tolerable they are. Etc.

If you are researching dog food I found the linked site below to be very helpful. Not the ratings section which is out of date but the information on labels and ingredients is good.

Passing on the advice of my vet who has been wonderful for first time moms like me....She suggested switching to adult food at about a year old, maybe two if they are super active and still growing. She also recommends that you try out different brands and rotate a few favorites to keep them interested.

I switched at 8 months old. I primarily fed Proplan puppy so I went straight to the adult version. At about age 1, I started rotating foods. I have about 6 different foods I rotate with now

As far as percentages go I keep the fat above 14% and the protein between 25% and 30%.

There isnt a right or wrong time to switch to adult food. You can also switch to an ALS food. For your initial switch, I do recommend you stick with a food that is similar to the puppy food, then start to experiment with different foods

What are you feeding now? Are you (and your dog) happy?
