I'm thinking that if the food brand is consistent, maybe weighing the portion would be helpful in determining what the threshold is for solid vs. runny poops!

I ran into an issue as the Royal Canin Puppy food the breeder was feeding in the UK is completely different than the Royal Canin Puppy food sold here in the US. I unknowingly did a cold switch of food on a 10 week old puppy. I was having poop issues and was talking to the manager of my local pet store who told me RC had changed all their formulas. I finally got Bruce switched onto Fromm Large Breed Puppy and he's done really well on it.

In general Labs are pigs and will eat as much as you feed them, they always look hungry, so it's not very hard to over feed them!!! Like I said before, with Bruce, just and extra 1/4 cups, and his poo would be very runny. When I was dealing with the initial food problem, I actually had to put him back on 4 meals a day for a couple weeks to get things right.

BTW - That pic in your post is adorable!!!

I think feeding and food are like most things with dogs. Each one is different, and it's up to us to figure out what works best. Like Jen said, you can probably just eliminate the midday meal and should be fine.

Now that's something you wouldn't expect; the manu. to change their formula on you. Guess they like to keep people on their toes!

A good (indoor) pic of Sophie is so hard to get, even with the flash on. I lucked out on that shot.

Did the usual two cups of TLC for breakfast this morning, will skip lunch, and then 2 cups again for dinner. Hopefully the poops will get better tomorrow.

Yeah I was pretty upset about it. I had fed it to my Sophie when she was a pup, and she did really well on it, but at that time the food was the same here as it was in the UK. So I had this 10 week old puppy who was stressed from his plane trip, and a cold food switch. I was lucky I didn't have more issues.

And I know how hard it is to get any good pics of black dogs indoors!!!! That's why I love your pic!!!!

Thank you - I chose her instead of her sister because of her sweet lil face. I didn't know anything about how to properly choose a puppy until I joined this board, but she's working out fine. She does puppy things and is now starting to show a conscience. We also have a ridiculously cute cat, but maybe, just maybe we're biased. LOL

Labs are definitely the hoover vacuums of the dog world.

Great pics of Sophie...what a beauftiful girl. It certainly doesn't look like the extra food caused any significant weight gain.

That's what I've heard...vacuums! From goose poop in the park to cigarette butts and previously-enjoyed chewing gum (ugh)...all without missing a step!

You're right - there hasn't been any significant weight gain from our screw up, thankfully. This morning her poops (she always does two separate efforts in one outing) were looking good - no soft serve or liquid! Yay!

Just the other day I showed hubby your sig photo...great looking dog! I look forward to warmer weather and exploring the water with her.
