Is peanut paste actually peanut butter?

I am a peanut butter addict and I also give it to my dogs, not stopping anytime soon

I was thinking she meant when you make a paste out of the peanut butter to seal a kong, or something to that effect. But this reminded me of how funny it is when I see dog specific peanut butter sold at pet stores.

My question, what about dry roasted peanuts? Bought some by accident (love honey roasted peanuts). I think the dry roasted is OK for the furkids but what's your opinion? In moderation of course.
That's what most real peanut butter is made from. Unsalted.

There are a couple stores around here that have the grinders right in the store, you make your own peanut butter.

However you a Poptop, or a Jane Doe someone that does a lot of kitchen stuff you can buy a grinder pretty cheap from Bed Bath and Beyond Access Denied (Link works even though it says access denied)
Add peanuts, hit the button and fresh peanut butter. This is what Hemi gets, except I just grind it at the store. Just add unsalted roasted peanuts. I actually prefer this myself too compared to regular store bought. Not quite as smooth, little grainy like sand, but not like crunchy. Tastes awesome though.

Haha, I just remembered there is a difference between countries with naming - peanut paste/butter. Peanut paste is in the jars that sit in your fridge/cupboard for up to two years. Many years ago when I studied about moulds etc, aspergillosis in particularly, and worked with people who went on liver diets to correct their dysfunction in livers, peanut paste and the way nuts deteriorate very fast was one reason I stopped eating them. It probably is different in different countries, but here I find it really hard to find FRESH nuts AND the supermarket is full of imported varieties of different nuts from China.

Again, aspergillosis and aflatoxins are in lots of processed foods and the science does show that it is a build up over time of moderate consumption rather than random consumption (like in a kong). The article was just a reminder for me that food I normally have, like yoghurt to line the kong or form some softish mixture, or a carrot/bean to plug the kong means I don't need to go out and buy peanut paste especially for my dog.

Natural yoghurt and even homemade yoghurt is a staple food for me like peanut paste/butter is to others.

Ahh, yeah, here Kong makes a peanut butter, chicken and beef paste to put in for dogs. Much like you squeeze out of a tooth paste tube. Like this one sweet potato. KONG Stuff'N Sweet Potato Spread Dog Treat, 5-oz tube

That stuff I wouldn't give to my dog. Some do, but it is far from real sweet potatoes or peanut butter.

However, here, fresh peanut butter is easy to access.

I'm not giving up peanut better for myself, the dogs eat less than I do.

Same here. I buy the organic unsweetened and unsalted peanut butter. I eat way too much of it, and Lola gets a spoonful here and there. Lola can be in a deep sleep, and I open the top (quietly) and she'll walk over in a trance.

I read that article, and although I usually like Dogs Naturally magazine, that one was way over the top. One thing in the article, though, it mentioned homemade, fresh peanut butter as being more of a risk. Which may or may not be true. But your usual jars you buy at the grocery store are not so much of a risk.

Although aflatoxins are bad, you have much much more of a risk through corn in your dog foods. Particularly the past couple of years, with poor growing conditions and storage issues creating a ripe environment for mold.

The peanut butter is not an issue for me. We use no sugar added, organic peanut butter anyhow, and that, to me, is a great treat for our dogs. Don't let every article in Dogs Naturally create fear. Take them with a grain of salt.

Glad to hear I am not the only one. A few people I know are really pushing that article and keep repeating it and repeating it whenver the word PB is meantioned.

Honestly, both Rocky and I would be VERY sad to remove peanut butterr from our day Both dogs get 1 to 2 kongs per day adn I still us PB in them. PLUS Rocky gets his pills with PB. I use the stuff with one ingredient (just peanuts) and keep it in the fridge.

If we stopped to look at the all the things in the chicken used in the dog food and so forth we'd probably stopp feeding that too. If looked at closely I bet NO FOOD is really "safe" per say.

But for sure, i never ever bought kong paste or anything like that. That must be like cheese-wiz, not sure there is any cheese in cheese wiz haha
