Ditto. Rocky won't get up unless it's worth his while - even if it makes no noise he KNOWS (i assume by smell) that i have openedt the jar of PB and is in the kitchen in a jiffy.

IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER HOW STEALTH I AM - he always knows. If I get up to have a snack late in the night (he's been sleeping for hours) I am just so quiet and sneaky and as soon as I turn around hes RIGHT THERE wagging his tail like "you are getting something for me too right?"

These two posts made me chuckle. It reminded me of my late Sandy (my avatar dog). One year, in an effort "if you can't beat them, join them," my hubs put out a bungee cord for the squirrels. It hung from a tree branch, about three feet off the ground, and had a corn cob on it. He added peanut butter to it, to entice the squirrels away from the bird feeders and to the bungee. Well. Shortly after Sandy had to go outside. I opened the door, and she made a beeline, full tilt bozo, for that corn cob. Jumped up, grabbed it, and licked all the PB off of it.

I laughed and laughed. My poor hubs still had no clue about a Lab...which is a wagging tail attached to a stomach.

This thread has made me laugh...you guys really love your pb! I think most houses here we have a jar of peanut paste/butter and a jar of Vegemite as staples but we're probably not has crazy about it as you guys.

But your usual jars you buy at the grocery store are not so much of a risk.

Although aflatoxins are bad, you have much much more of a risk through corn in your dog foods. Particularly the past couple of years, with poor growing conditions and storage issues creating a ripe environment for mold.

The peanut butter is not an issue for me. We use no sugar added, organic peanut butter anyhow, and that, to me, is a great treat for our dogs. Don't let every article in Dogs Naturally create fear. Take them with a grain of salt.
I didn't really read the article in full, it was just a reminder of the science for me because it is very very old news, decades old.

The sugar part I ignored....it's like when I read that carrots are bad for dogs because of their high sugar content!!!! Ridiculous and not taking a bigger picture perspective.

Now if I was to remove treats such as a carrot or her dollop of yoghurt or an egg my dog would surely miss them.

-hearing the opening of the jar of pb! ..my dog can be at the other end of the house and can hear me getting a carrot out of the fridge even before I start cutting it
