There is no reason why you cant have a few foods you can rotate too. I prefer it that way. If any recalls happen I always have something else I can feed without a transition. Then again, you might not want to disrupt a good thing, if his current food works so well, maybe its best to leave it alone

I don't personally think one food is better than another. It depends on the individual dog. I tried a few of the Fromm foods with no success even though my lab and corgi can eat just about anything. They are used to multiple foods. Results were loose stools each time. So for my girls it does not work at all

I didn't give up our food, not the best, not the worst, though very good for my dog and it was the breeder's food. Instead I added two new foods and started a three food rotation. I picked different main protein and filler sources, kept protein, fat and kcal/per cup numbers very close. One new food was grain free, the other two not. This worked very well, I saw no differences in stool size, colour or frequency, coat quality or energy levels or weight. Worked for us.

I guess it's only right that I say we are now raw but I really don't think food was the cause of Oban's Inflammatory Bowel Disease last summer. I think it was the combination of meds he was on. But the Vet likes raw, she saved his life, I tend to do what she encourages now.

I would confirm if they have had recalls personally (I think kirkland has had recalls?)

I would question the need for all teh supplements if the food is that good though. unless there are health issues that require supplements.
Tanya - I might be completely wrong in my earlier post in regards to recalls. Kirkland appears only once in 2013...however Diamond, the company that makes the kirkland food has had 6. That is terrifying and I only just made that connection.

Spike's breeder feeds Kirkland's super premium dog food to her dogs and Spike came with the food. I couldn't tell if he was doing well on that food or not because he had coccidia and giardia. I wanted to keep him on that food until he was at least 6-8 months but I didn't have a Costco membership at the time so I switched him to Pro Plan puppy. He did pretty good on Pro Plan but I switched the food when he got older to Fromm(tried a few other brand but he didn't do well). He is doing good but his coat is kinda flakey. Candy does great on Fromm though. Her stool, coat, eye, everything is just so perfect. Spike has teary eyes sometimes so Fromm might not be the best food for him. I just started mixing Wellness Core Ocean to his food to see how he does on Wellness. I personally like Fromm the best because they are a small family owned company with no recalls ever.

Do you know who makes Kirkland signature super premium Can foods? They are so cheap and I almost bought a case at Costco the other day.

I'm inclined to follow the advice of, if it isn't broke don't fix it, but if you're concerned about recalls, that's a different story.

I assume you've priced out Fromm in Canada - it's crazy expensive.

After considering a few options I went with the Acana Regionals line - it's a bit more affordable, and it's been a great food for us.

Fromm is much much cheaper than Acana here in my area. Fromm 4 star grain inclusive foods are around $48-52/30lbs and grain free foods are around $58-62. Acana on the other hand, are over $70/bag.

Fromm is $65-70 here... crazy how prices differ based on location.

I am glad that you made the connection. If Betty saw this she would have more than a few comments. Diamond is the manufacturer that had duct tape and cardboard "repairing" the machinery that had the ingredients getting contaminated with bacteria. How the heck can you clean duct tape and cardboard?!?!? Betty's dog went into serious liver failure and almost died. They had various recalls in the previous decade. They lost my trust. It was a shame.

If he is doing well then why mess with what is working now.. I personally use Fromm only because I started out on grain free with a new puppy and wanted to go simple and find a quality food my two dogs would eat toether (currently pushing 11 and other is 15 months). i have always went the grain free route and did a lot of research before the switch.. prior to going totally Fromm I fed my older girl Wellness Core and Taste of the Wild.. she was constantly battling ear infections.. since being on Fromm now for over a year no ear infections. I would recommend the Fromm foods because of their quality and reputation and well because my 2 pups approve. However, that being said- it is very costly! They are only 26 lb bags and average around $65-70 per bag on the discount sites-- I use Chewy as it is cheapest I have found.. like to the tune of $10 or more less per bag than the local store that sells Fromm brand. I too supplement with Salmon oil and older girl gets vit c and hylasport canine daily.

Oh I might add the Fromm rotation with the four star grain free is what I do... prefer the surf and turf flavor, also do the beef frittata, and recently did a bag of Game Bird which the loved! Have tried the pork and applesauce too. Surf and turf is regular and then I rotate out a different flavor in between.. with two labs each over 70 lbs I am going through a bag of Fromm food every 3 weeks and that is feeding only 2x per day with each getting approximately two cups each feeding(its different for each and actually less than that).
