I'm new here but looks like a lot of you know what's what about feeding. We adopted Steve about a year ago from Halo at Petsmart - he'd only been there one day. We definitely lucked out finding him - couldn't have found a more perfect fit for our house with a 4 yr old and 2 cats. Steve is just about 2 and just weighed in at 77lbs. (He likes to sneak into the cats food).
I grew up in "the dog show world" and my mother is a breeder as well as a judge now. So I've always had a little more inside knowledge than the average person I guess.
Steve has been on Purina One Chicken since we got him but I think he's bored with it. He eats the chunks of chicken and leaves the kibble. No doubt his pickiness is also fueled by his love for the cats dry food.
So, I've done some research and planned on changing food. My top choices were Orijen, Fromm & CORE. I had a bag of Core in my cart and then asked the manager at Petsmart (she's been there forever so we're familiar) and she said that perhaps it may be too much of a swing from P One - protein wise. She suggested Bil-Jac as an intermediate so I bought a small bag. Looks like rabbit food. But the dog seems to like it (I subbed 25% into his breakfast today). I haven't seen any comments about this brand so now I'm second guessing. I do see it has some controversial ingredients but I don't know enough about these items to know which ones are "ok" and which are "absolutely shouldn't be fed". Price of the food isn't that much of a concern, I just want something that he'll like and that is nutritions for him.
