    Annamaet Lean

Hey everyone. I posted a while back about Roxy's "episodes" of vomiting every 2 or 3 months, with no known cause (yet). The blood work and tests from when she was sick the last time were not very helpful, but did say pancreatitis was maybe a possibility, although the vet said she wasn't convinced of that. She said that Roxy made "a miraculously fast recovery" for that, since she felt just fine after a couple days of Cerenia and I/D.

Anyway, just as a test, I wanted to try a grain-free low-fat food for the next 3 or 4 months to see if the vomiting episodes stop or continue regardless. I slowly switched Roxy from ProPlan Sport to Annamaet Lean after discussing it with the vet, who looked over the ingredients and percentages. The Annamaet lean is 9% fat, 30% protein.

Question #1: What are everyone's thoughts on Annamaet in general?

Question #2: Roxy's poops are quite a bit larger than when she was on ProPlan. Is it just not agreeing with her and how long should I give it a try until I know for certain it is not agreeing with her?

Question #3: Will using a food so low in fat cause any other issues I have not considered? Like I mentioned, it's only for 3 or 4 months total, just to see, and we are already 2 months into it. So far so good, no vomiting.

    Thanks.

I like Annamaet. Good company and good formulas. Lowering fat can cause coat problems. I'm sure there may be a few more, but that's the only one I can think of. Is the poop solid?

Coat looks nice and shiny, no change there yet. I am giving her additional food to keep the kcals the same as before. She's tall and thin, so weight loss is definitely not what I want. Yes, solid poops, just larger in quantity.

I feed Annamaet and have fed Lean for one meal and another formula for the other. My dogs like it and no coat issues although I am not strictly feeding Lean and they also get salmon oil so that probably skews things. But Chase has been on Lean by itself and did fine.

I've fed my dogs Annamaet Aqualuk before with good success and I really like the company. The owner was very happy to respond to email questions. The company has a good track record.

The low 9% fat could possibly affect skin and coat long-term; but you say it's not a problem so far. Maybe adding some salmon oil or coconut oil could be beneficial.

I'm not sure why the stools are larger, but that can vary naturally from one formula to another. As longer as they are well-formed I wouldn't worry about it at this point. Typically I try a new food for 3-4 months to get a good read on if my dogs will thrive on it. Of course, if there were serious problems I'd end the trial sooner.

Thanks for the replies. We haven't had any issues, other than she's kind of reluctant to eat it in the mornings unless I mix other food or warm water in it, but eats it fine in the evenings.
