I also thought changing from her normal kibble straight into Prescription kibble could contribute to more tummy upsets but the Vet Nurse said it was worth the risk. I just needed the reassurance that keeping her on a bland diet whilst on antibiotics was the better option. Thank you again Maxx&Emma. She is on Amoxyclav.

The comment from the vet nurse gets under my skin a bit! Who exactly is it worth the risk to? Her, Poppy, you, perhaps the nearest telephone pole?! Poppy is not her puppy and you are the only person with the right to decide if the risk of anything is "worth it". I don't know for sure that using this kibble would cause gastro upset but why would you want to add even more misery to a dog that is already feeling yucky, if it is not necessary? I guess it is a good thing she didn't say that to me, I don't think I would have been very polite, lol!

My morning "sermon" is now over!

Vitamin C should be given only to bowel tolerance because it can cause diarrhea if dose is too high for the individual at that time. If she is getting C, back way off on it for now. Maybe only a tiny crumb of it instead of a pill.

I have no problem with suddenly changing to a prescription bland diet for a growing pup with diarrhea over the period of time that she has had recurrences. A badly balanced diet at this stage could cause permanent damage, including rickets or worse. This is especially true with her having to change antibiotics. This vet's recognition of the RV and prescription for her going through at least one heat cycle helps us think you found a good vet. Sometimes you just have to listen to the professionals!

Charlotte - I have never heard that about vitamin C, that is good to know!

I have never heard of a prescription diet for a UTI. I know some of the prescription foods do not have the best quality ingredients, I would think a balanced, bland diet most similar to what the puppy was eating already would be better and cause less tummy troubles. I agree you should listen to the professional but to say it "would be worth it" for a dog to experience gastro issues just seems odd to me. How much of that prescription food are they actually absorbing if it goes right through them? If the professional gives me a reason that makes good sense I am all for following their suggestions.
