Does your breeder have an established, successful program? Meaning several generations of pups with sound hips/elbows/etc? If so, follow their lead. I'd be far more concerned about slow, uniform growth than protein and fat. In fact, it's really more about calcium and phosphorus levels and ratios. And what is wrong w/ chicken meal? That's the dry form (w/o water) of chicken. It's actually better than seeing chicken as the first ingredient. Anne

Btw, itching isn't always due to food, and probably rarely. At 9 wks, he can be shedding his puppy undercoat. Or maybe that new collar you bought him is taking some getting used to. Or check his ears... Or maybe he was bit by a mosquito or lawn insects...

I got one big bag, and when the time comes I'll be switching Bruce over to Fromm, which is what I've been feeding Sophie, and I'm very very happy with the results.
Chicken meal is a quality ingredient, nothing to be afraid of there. I don't know anything about the food you are feeding, have never used it. My 2 are older and rotate between Fromm GF, Wellness Core, Earthborn GF and Infinia GF. I use a different protien in each new bag.

If you change from the breeder food I would suggest Pro Plan Sport 30/20 or, if you want a food with fewer ingredients and less filler due to personal preference, Fromm Puppy Gold is a good alternative. Whatever you do, try to stick to one food for at least the first year. The food roller coaster is not a ride you want to board!

Our breeder was also using Iams. I know Iams isn't a horrible food, but wanted to give Molly something of a little more quality without spending tons more on it. After a 30 pound bag, I switched her to Pro Plan Focus Puppy. It was a very smooth transition, and while she still gets the occasional soft poos, they are a lot less frequent on the PP than Iams.

And what is wrong with chicken meal as the first ingredient? I know a LOT of breeders who are feeding the RC Maxi Puppy and their puppies look great.
