My husband's chocolate lab did great on Royal Canin, that is what she ate before we switched to raw.

    Thanks for this positive example!

This morning my dog's stool was soft again and I really feel frustrated. My husband cannot bear to see our dog not have normal stool for such a long time (a couple of weeks) and he started worrying about her health. Then we decided to switch back to Royal Canin..... Even though I still worry about the quality of Royal Canin, I have to admit that switching back seems the correct thing to do now. We might wait for our dog to be a bit older to try switching again. But got be very careful.

So, about Royal Canin, if you have positive examples, please share with me to give me more confidence!

Scully was on Royal Canin for the last 8-10 years of her life (and Pro-Plan for the first part) ... and she lived to 15!

Royal Canin has been around a long time; while I never fed it, many dogs have done great on it over the years.

For years I felt dry dog foods had different levels of quality; but truth be told, pet food is pet food and listed as animal feed; in the end, it's all the same quality just marketed differently.

Not sure U can go wrong with any dry dog food, exception being those that have frequent/deadly recalls attached to their names.....I've seen many dogs in my lifetime thrive and do exceptionally well on KibblesNBitts and Ole Roy as well; not that I recommend them. But, my grandfather's dachshund was born & raised on KibblesNBitts, and still alive at 17.

The key to keep in mind, is any fresh meats/foods that can be added to the diet long-term is where the benefits can really take place personally. Many are scared to add fresh foods to a growing puppy's diet, but I've had quite a few large dogs from 4mnths of age on that never had growth issues with adding any type of variety.

FWIW - I fed both Acana & Orijen in the past, both foods made my one dog stink with horrible loose stools & couldn't gain weight; that said, 90% of the dry foods on the market caused the same reaction in him; exception was Fromm's & Merrick grain-free.

After 3yrs of chasing a dead end road & hating every dry food we offered him; we put the boy on a raw diet...BEST choice I ever made. Health difference was huge; to the level that I only wished I'd done it sooner. He can eat anything now with no reactions & he's cheaper to feed raw too then he ever was dry foods.

I feed Max Pro Plan , I can buy in town ..... I would have tried /fed Royal Canin but I would have to buy out of town or order on line . Sounds like Royal Canin is working for pup .... great news

While I agree that feeding what works is most important and I really like a raw diet, this sentence really bothers me. To suggest the quality of Orijen or Farmina is the same as KibblesNBits or Beneful makes no sense to me. There is a huge difference in quality, in my opinion.

I agree if for no other reason than if you look at the ingredient profile (how much meat, etc., compared to cheaper protein for corn) there are differences. I do think that once you get to a certain point - meat as the first ingredient, etc., there isn’t all that much difference.
