Your dog is barely over a year. Wait until 2 years of age. Some males take FOREVER to mature. Jagger isn't even 2 yet, and I still see that he is maturing from month to month. He holds solid at 80# though. They can easily put on 20# as they develop their full adult muscular structure.

Remember all dogs are different too. Just because his father was one weight doesn't mean that you didn't get the pup that at maturity will just be smaller.

Females DO have different reasons to spay as they mature...I've just heard of too many issues of pyometria recently. Too scary. But boys, they are easy to keep intact.

Also, remember photos are deceiving. Daddy may only be about 80-90# himself.
Jagger certainly doesn't look just 80# here...

Pictures are deceiving! You have a dog with lots of coat like Jagger and they look heavier. Put lots of coat on top of a large-boned dog and they can seem deceptively large, when in fact they are not.

Looks are deceiving. Chopper looks much larger than 63 pounds. Maverick did a lot of filling out/beefing up at 15-16 months. He actually gained 10 pounds in that time frame. I'm guessing Chopper will hit a huge growth spurt soon and fill in/bulk up as well. What is the protein in Wellness? We feed anywhere from 30%-40% depending on the brand and variety. Both of our dogs are so active and energetic and are doing well with a larger protein ratio and it sounds like Chopper is very similar. Regardless, he looks to be in perfect health. Not too fat or too thin. That's the important part.

I'm not sure what percentage protein Wellness Core contains, but here are the ingredients:

    Ingredients

Deboned Turkey, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Peas, Potatoes, Dried Ground Potatoes, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Tomato Pomace, Chicken Liver, Natural Chicken Flavor, Ground Flaxseed, Salmon Oil, Spinach, Vitamin E Supplement, Broccoli, Carrots, Choline Chloride, Parsley, Apples, Blueberries, Kale, Sweet Potatoes, Taurine, Mixed Tocopherols added to preserve freshness, Zinc Proteinate, Zinc Sulfate, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Chondroitin Sulfate, Calcium Carbonate, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate, Iron Proteinate, Beta-Carotene, Vitamin A Supplement, Copper Sulfate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Manganese Sulfate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Chicory Root Extract, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Biotin, Calcium Iodate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Folic Acid, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Dried Lactobacillus plantarum Fermentation Product, Dried Enterococcus faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus casei Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product, Rosemary Extract, Green Tea Extract, Spearmint Extract.

I took Chopper to the Vet yesterday for a checkup and the Vet said he was the perfect weight. She said he is all muscle and he has plenty of time to fill out. LOL... She did say he was petty hyper. Chopper is healthy, very strong and he can run with the wind while seeming to never tire. I am very happy! By the way, thanks for everyone's comments. I really appreciate the depth of knowledge on this forum.

Ever since I first laid eyes on Jagger, I was so impressed with his looks. He is something special. Simply awesome. Love that coat!

Wellness Core foods average 38 percent protein. I use the Wild Game formula in my rotation. It is a great food!
