Did you look up mega esophagus?

    Megaesophagus: The Food Regurgitation Disease

Also I know two people in your area that have dogs with mega e that are successfully feeding their dogs and have a healthy life now. If that's what is it and you're interested, let me know. Hope you find out soon what's going on.

Good idea to get x-rays. Dogs have been known to harbor items in their stomachs much longer than anyone would imagine. Maybe he has a partial or intermittent obstruction related to something sitting in his stomach. Whatever it is, I hope it's relatively easy to fix!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Are you positive that he isnt getting into anything in your yard? Is anyone giving him treats, etc?

Also ask your vet about possibly giving him a low dose of Pepcid AC. My corgi occasionally takes it for acid reflux

Either way its time for an extensive exam with testing. Wishing him the best

Ok not often that I do this but here goes my rant. DH took Rudy to the vet I could not go due to another appt. we did a speaker phone call for the visit. I said I would listen, vet said I actually have questions for you. "It's only been 6 days I said to try him for 3o days on the Wellness. Then call if not better." I said he is still getting sick how is he supposed to get nutrition??? How can I watch my dog just waste away? He's already lost 10% of his body weight. I pretty much demanded an X-ray for a rule out of something in the stomach. I then asked for blood work which she agreed with since it was overdue (I have concerns about protein loss, she thinks that is not it but who knows til you test). There was much discussion about sensitivity, allergies and food reactions. She also said we could do Pepcid 20mg in the am. She then said many dogs w GI issues do well on vet RX En and try him on that. I agreed. DH brought it home ($100 for 32#). It is Proplan vet and 2nd ingredient is CHICKEN!! That is basically what he was on when all this started, except it was Sport 28/18. Why would I want to go back to that?? After discussion w DH who said ' I don't know' as he mostly leaves dog health up to me I chose to stick w the Wellness. A friend did recommend ' cool' food, as she worked w a well renowned dog nutruitionist when her dog had serious GI issues. I am adding in turkey to the lamb as lamb is warm and Rudy needs cool, based on what I read from my friend (I also trust her judgment, she has had labs for many years) and the nutritionist website. . So that's it. I guess see what the blood show, and how he does on turkey. I was just so tormented trying to decide what to feed him when I saw that bag.

Vet did mention that, but thinks no based on his symptoms.

I've had dogs x-rayed on the first visit if they'd had repeated vomiting. I don't rush them in and certainly try fasting then chicken and rice bland diet, etc. but if that hasn't helped after a few days,my vet will usually take an x-ray or 2. My dogs do have a history of eating stuff they shouldn't, but 10% weight loss? Yikes! That's a long time to try more conservative measures, in my opinion.

I would tend to follow the vet's recommendations. The special veterinary diets really do work. I wouldn't feed them long term but since you already have the bag why not? When Frank had his mysterious vomiting episode earlier this year (he became dehydrated and had to overnight at the vets for IV fluids) we put him on Hills i/d digestive care for a while. It worked. We then moved to a LID. We fed Wellness Simple Solutions lamb and oatmeal for a couple bags and now he's finally back to his regular diet (Pro Plan). We never did figure out what caused Frank to vomit. X-rays showed a massive amount of stuff in his stomach. After the IV fluids everything started to move on out. You said your dog acts normal except for the vomiting. Frank was definitely not normal and acted very sick. If bloodwork is normal and the X-rays showed nothing then it certainly wouldn't hurt to give Pepcid and the veterinary diet a try.

Well after much anguish and torment, I decided to keep him on the Wellness. I just could not take a step backward and feed him the chicken Proplan again. He is getting the Pepcid. I will see how he does on that and the Wellness for now.

The plot thickens. His blood work was normal, EXCEPT thyroid. His was 1, normal is 1-4 Low thyroid usually causes wt gain and lethargy, Rudy is the opposite w wt loss and good energy. He needs full thyroid panel, it is done at MSU and takes 1-2 weeks for results. Vet says she has only seen 2 dogs w hypothyroid w his symptoms in her career. At least we have a path now.
