    Post-raw weirdness

It's been about three weeks since I switched Sam from raw to kibble. I ended up putting him on the Canine Caviar fish diet. No tummy issues and he's stopped itching and his coat looks great! However, that could also be because he finished blowing his coat and it's finally fall. That's the good news. The bad news is that he is back to eating Linus' poop! He was doing that several months before we went raw and then as soon as we went raw it stopped.

Linus, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be doing as well (same kibble). At first I was feeding one meal raw and one kibble. That seemed to be going OK. Then I started feeding more kibble (mostly because I got lazy and it was easier than defrosting meat). Since I started that, he's been drinking water like it's going out of style and having to pee buckets. I came home tonight to a large amount of urine on the kitchen floor, which is so unlike him.

I'm not sure if Sam is eating poop because HE is eating kibble or because LINUS is eating kibble. And, I'm pretty sure the excessive water and urination is from the kibble. Now that Sam looks so great, I'm going back to one meal of raw (no chicken) and one of kibble and see what happens. I will consistently do the same with Linus. It'll be interesting to see how this affects the poop eating and the water consumption.

Why can't anything ever just be easy???

Lol, great question!! Mostly because they can not talk to us and tell us what is going on, IMHO. Hopefully the one raw/1 kibble meals will be your magic answer!

When I fed Canine caviar, my girl drank TONS of water too & actually ended up with a couple of UTI's, my understanding is CC is high in ash - thus the reason for excessive water intake.

Personally, although my dogs did good when I fed the food, I will never feed it again. period. Don't like foods with high ash, too me that's a sign of more bone rather then meat & for the price?? That's an expensive food!!

Both of my dogs ate each others poop until I switched to raw; within a few days, poop eating completely stopped. I have no reason to switch back to kibble & never will, so I can't say if they would do it again. I do know they're eating less with raw, digest it better then any kibble & my cost is actually cheaper.

And I do have one dog who eats mostly beef, very little poultry due to food allergies.

Interesting. Sam's water intake has not increased at all and he is on kibble full-time at the moment. Linus is just now starting to drink less (well, as of Saturday -- time flies!) and he has been on raw full time for about a week.

Now that Linus has been on raw for a week, I will see about the poop eating.
