    Another food question...

So, I have referenced our situation in a few other threads, but figured I would start my own. Looking for advice for our 8 month old. He is roughly 65lbs. He is very active, including about an hour of walks per day, an hour of off leash activity at a nearby dog park, as well as plenty of mental training at home. He has been on Blue Buffalo puppy chicken and rice since we have had him at 8 weeks. We live in MN and obviously have dry winters. About a month ago, he started scratching at random spots, enough to lose some hair in those areas, but not enough for hot spots. We took him to the vet to rule out any other issues, she think it's due to the dry weather or a developed food allergy. She said he looks great! We have since mixed in fish oil as well as having two humidifiers running pretty much all the time. It has seemed to help, but he still has those issues. We have cut out all other treats from his diet. Lately we have noticed him passing gas quite a bit. We are able to hear it a few times a day. We were considering changing his food a month ago, but are going to do it now. It seems like all of these issues can be traced back to his food, no?

Any good recommendations for food based on his lifestyle with only being 8 months old that doesn't include chicken?

We have been feeding him more than we probably should with 4 1/2 cups per day, but I feel like he burns it all of so quickly.

    Any my other suggestions?

I feel like this is such a common question, but I feel more comfortable with the answers I'll receive here than at the vet and pet store.

We are looking at either Purina Pro Plan Sport 30/20 salmon & rice or Fromm Heartland Gold.

Either of those foods would be an upgrade from the BB.

Well, we have gave it 2 more weeks and no changes. Still itching at certain spots, enough to keep up the hair loss in those areas. His passing gas is still present pretty regularly although stools have been firm and on a regular basis! We will be slowly mixing in a product from the Fromm Four Star starting this weekend. Hoping for better results!

You're sure these foods don't contain chicken? Or chicken fat?

Other common allergens include eggs, soy, wheat and corn.

A few of their 4 star flavors do have chicken cartilage. We don't even know for sure if it's the chicken based food he's been on. We don't feed him anything else that could cause it. I just feel lost when it comes down to it. This is the first dog the wife and I have had. The spots that are bare are on either side of his hind end, it's just frustrating. I am just praying that a different food (eliminating chicken) or perhaps grain will do it. Our vet didn't have any helpful recommendations and both of the local pet food stores I've been in recently have both recommended TOTW, so it's just been a little stressful.
You can see the light patch on his back leg....

I'm having really good luck with Fromm Pork and Pea (knock on wood).

No grains, chicken, wheat or soy.

Also, is he and all of your pets on flea meds? Some dogs are allergic to fleas even just thinking about them and they are hard to see on dogs as well as cats.

He is our only pet. He is current on flea prevention. I also am in the pest control business so I know exactly what to look for. We also had a trip to the vet a few weeks back to rule out any skin issues.
