    What's everyone feeding these days????

Niner is on PPSSS. He has been for a few years. All is good, but his poop though formed is soft. He always has to poop on a plant and it's not easy to pick up. The volume is enormous as well. I never really thought much of this until I put him on canned I/D recently when he had 2 teeth extracted. Wow - much smaller and firmer poops. It was a big difference. So now I think I'd like to try something else for him and am wondering what everyone is feeding.

    Thanks

    Nancy

Charlie still eats Holistic Select Anchovy, Sardine and Salmon. He has done well on it and I have considered it for Niner, but I'm not convinced that's a good food for him.

After Archie's dental and a little bit of gum surgery on Monday, I've been feeding him Blue canned. I know, not so great but one of the few he'll eat. By tomorrow I can switch him over to kibble broken up in the blender and soaked in water. Antibiotic will still be hidden in a spoonful of canned. Tried Zignature canned, he wouldn't even put is nose in the bowl. His poos have been fairly normal.

Thanks Fran - Niner gets some canned, but even though he is minus a couple of teeth he still eats his dry food just fine. I'm looking for a good dry food without too many ingredients

I've become a Fromm fan. I feed the Pork and Apple Sauce and the Beef Frittata (or something like that). Lately, I've been making their food as well. I've been purchasing discounted meat, boiling it, adding veggies and fruit (usually stuff in the fridge that is old that I don't want to eat or something in season that is cheap or homegrown) and then some lentils or brown rice or oatmeal to make it more canned food consistency versus soup. I typically I let it cool then freeze in gallon freezer bags. I split their meals, half home-cooked and half kibble. I get nervous about not giving them what they need in home-made or raw meals, so by also using kibble, I feel pretty good about ensuring they are not going without. I will also feed just kibble for a week or a few days here and there, just depends on what I've got handy. They're doing really well! Great weight (FINALLY) and good poops. Also, this decreases my dog food bill quite a bit as Fromm is spendy.

Bacon gets Fromm 4 star, currently on Lamb and lentil. We were doing Pork and Peas but he was getting funky anal glands problems, so we switched to lamb.

The only thing I'd worry about is if it's canned/processed broth, which usually has a very high sodium content.

I've been feeding Petkind Dry Tripe to Sophie for about a year now, with some Fromm 4 Star mixed in now and then. I've never seen smaller poo's and a so little shedding on any dog I've had before. Bruce had been on the Petkind/Fromm rotation, and his poo's and coat were the same as Sophie.

Brooks is on Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy per Windycanyon's recommendation. I'll keep him on it for 6-8 months, then he will go with what ever Sophie's using.

I recently switched Milo from Blue to Nutro large breed puppy lamb formula. When he was eating Blue, his stools were not very solid and bordering on runny. Now that he's eating Nutro, his stools are solid, his coat is shiny, and he has lots of energy.

I've thought about Nutro, but haven't gotten the best feedback on it. I might check into it since it's worked well for Milo. I was also thinking TOTW, but when I had Charlie on it his coat was horribly dry and he always had eye boogers so not sure I want to go that route.

I had a few people recommend Nutro and I read the reviews but decided to try it anyway. I can't seem to find Pro Plan anywhere local and I wanted to get him off the Blue so I gave Nutro a shot. Seems to be doing great so I'll stick with it.
