    Supplements

Does anyone use holistic supplements for brain function? My 13 year old sheltie is developing dementia I guess you would call it. He paces around all night that I had to resort crating him again bc he would keep me up all night. Vet recommended tranq but I really don't want to do that to him and the other option was analipril.

I used standard processing stuff with Gauge and his ear infections and staff infections he would get. I think someone here used SP maybe Fran? Is there one for dementia in dogs?

The only one I remember seeing anyone on here mention to prevent dementia is Cholodin, that windycanyon uses. I'm not familiar with "standard processing stuff", so I don't know if this qualifies. I think it's considered a food supplement rather than a medication.

I use Whole Body Support from standard process for my 13 year old BC mix. I've probably been supplementing her for 2-3 months and I do notice a difference. She zoomies/ butt tucks almost daily in the yard. I filled out a C.A.N. Survey and my vet told me what would be best by using that.

I love standard processing stuff!! I started using immune support, enteric support and I'm currently using dermal support for Gauge after battling for 2 years of skin infections and ear infections due to allergies. Since putting him on this he's had no issues and I don't have to load his system with antibiotics and steroids everytime.

I'll look into the whole body support and talk with the holistic vet and see what she recommends.

There is hard evidence that certain medium chain fatty acids can help older dogs with brain function. Pro Plan was the first to actually incorporate this in its Bright Mind foods.

Don't both with coconut oil to try to imitate the formula because it is impossible.

It is a myth about coconut oil. The ratios and concentrations of the medium chain fatty acids used in the studies are different than coconut oil.

Coconut oil cures everything according to the importers.
