If the Egyptian 'Isis' was meant, then I double down on unhinged (or just uninformed!). I admit that I was puzzled by mis-writing ISIS, but hey: people do that all the time. I had considered the Egyptian Isis, but I know a little about that god (rather, I also teach Comparative Religion, and while I focus mainly on Greco-Roman / ancient Judaism, I also teach on the topic of foreign cults in Rome), and the comment makes no sense.

Again, I didn't see it as a threat (really, someone's threatening a Lab board with the Islamic State?), so much as just ... weird. I'm actually chuckling a bit more if it was a reference to Isis. I believe the proper Egyptian god to invoke would have been Anubis.

(It was probably a typo, but I can't figure out for what.)

I didn't mean a true threat against the lab board, but I believe he meant the Islamic State and not the goddess.

Yeah, now I have to go back and agree it must have been Islamic State. Which is just a weird thing to bring into a conversation. I mean, right?

    "I'd like another beer; you?"

"I would, but the Islamic State probably wouldn't approve."

I mean, in real life, I'd just sort of slowly back towards the door if someone said that.

Yeah...there's just too much history of trying to get people stirred up. And seeming to pick up speed.

I'm not taking sides, nor supporting one or the other, but really?

Isis, Egyptian Aset or Eset , one of the most important goddesses of ancient Egypt. Her name is the Greek form of an ancient Egyptian word for “throne.”

Isis was initially an obscure goddess who lacked her own dedicated temples, but she grew in importance as the dynastic age progressed, until she became one of the most important deities of ancient Egypt. Her cult subsequently spread throughout the Roman Empire, and Isis was worshipped from England to Afghanistan. She is still revered by pagans today. As mourner, she was a principal deity in rites connected with the dead; as magical healer, she cured the sick and brought the deceased to life; and as mother, she was a role model for all women.

Anything is possible, I suppose. Based on the various interactions of the forum member in question, I feel okay sticking with my initial reaction.
