    Talk about stupid

I just found out today there's companies that make raw dog food.
I always thought those that are into it were making at home in their kitchen!
Go ahead, you're allowed to laugh..........only once though

When I fed raw I bought hunks of meat from a raw food supplier, got the OH's old deer hunting saw out for some of it. Some was ground. I did try some of that pre-packaged raw because at one point there were some really good coupons for one brand and it was easier. But it was mostly me working out a monthly menu of BARF, got our VET's ok,(she strongly encourages raw) and I did make it at home in my own kitchen. I even bought a high end blender for the veggies part. Vet prefers a juicer. So I'm not laughing, but I do sort of think the pre-packaged is used not much differently than kibble by some, same thing all the time, going by comments on a raw FB group.

Some people do make their own at home. My dogs get a few meals a week of raw, and I make those meals at home. There are lots of co-ops and sources for raw organ meats, and raw, meaty, bones, etc.

There is a good thing (from my perspective) about this and that's IF it is an analyzed diet. You'd be surprised, Bernie, at the number of folks who want to feed their PUPPY raw. At ~2% Ca++ level, I put the kibosh to that as the breeder. I am not guaranteeing / warranteeing any puppy from my program w/ that feeding program.. Easy smeazy.... go elsewhere!

    Ha.......I was right.......well kinda.
As I already said, I didn't know you could buy frozen, or freeze dried, and was surprised.
    It's all good...... (pun intended)

p.s. I was given a free sample and Rocco doesn't like it......of course.
He likes homemade waffles with maple syrup though.

raw can get very expensive if you dont buy in bulk or have a keen eye for sales...at least in my area. and thats not counting the time to prepare it...of course I was just analyzing the idea of feeding raw, so I may of missed the mark.

They are a variety of companies out there that make pre-packaged raw. If you have a small breed, it is not quite as expensive to feed this way and some people like the convenience.

I've been feeding raw to my three labs for over five years. I couldn't afford to feed them pre-made and prefer putting their meals together myself. At this point I have a rabbit supplier, know where to go for deer meat during hunting season, have a company from Indiana that I order from once a month, know where to get beef hearts for super cheap, and know which grocery stores have the best prices for certain things and stock up when there are sales.

If it makes you feel any better, I thought the same thing up until this past January when we got Major. I'd always heard about feeding dogs Raw food and then when we went to get supplies at Petsmart and I saw the freezer full of it I was shocked. Didn't realize it could be bought prepackaged.
