Stella has been on Pro Plan chicken and rice her whole life. We are about to make the switch to adult food. Our plan is to start with Pro Plan Sport, and then only change brands if that doesn't agree with her.
Anything i I should watch for as we transition formulas? Is it an easier switch since it's the same brand than if we were going to a different brand? How long should we plan to be mixing the two foods, as I want to make sure I don't run out of puppy food, or end up with too much once the switch is done.

How old is Stella? We are about to make the switch for Major too so I'm curious when others are moving to adult food.
If you like how Stella is doing on the puppy food, you really don't have to switch her off of it. :-) If you do switch to one of the Pro Plan Sport formulas, they are very similar in ingredients, and you should be able to feed the puppy one meal, and feed the Sport the very next meal.

I went from ProPlan puppy to ProPlan adult with only a few days of mixing since there were no obvious issues with either of them. The puppy formula is 28/18 protein and fat. I changed to the 26/16 Sport. Since it's the same brand, same protein source, likely same vitamins, minerals, and other ingredients, there will probably not be much of an issue. Since the Sport formulas are All Life Stages foods, some puppies get those and are never on puppy food anyway.
The 2 breeders we got our labs from, as well as our vet, said they could move to adult food around 4 months of age. Some breeders recommend waiting until a year. If you got your pup from a knowledgeable breeder, I'd go with their recommendation regarding the age to transition since they should have an idea of what works best for their dogs. I think mine went from puppy to adult food around 5 months but that had mainly to do with how much puppy food I had.

I've always heard 10-12 months, I waited the full 12 as I was using up the puppy food, personally I think it's over-rated as is most hype about dog foods, ever wonder what what happen if your pup was 15 months old and still eating puppy food?
All of mine have switched at around 4-5 months ... in all cases from Pro-Plan puppy to Pro-Plan sport. I don’t think we even did much mixing, but my dogs have never had a problem with new foods.

Thanks all! She's 9mo old. Breeder had suggested switching around 6mos and to be honest I forgot. oops! I've got about half a bag of Pro Plan Puppy left so will make our next bag the Sport and do the transition. Very glad to hear it should be straightforward.
