well I'm a little disgruntled with Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach. Niner was on it for four years up until about a month ago. He always had somewhat soft poop on it, but I could pick it up. They now changed the formula (and increased the price I might add) and canola meal is second on the list. Niner's poop is mush. Um yuck. We switched to Eukanuba lamb and rice and the output is much smaller and firmer.

While I can appreciate good, civil debate these food threads seem to lead to name calling and hurt feelings, kinda like a political "debate".

For what it's worth, my beagle's breeder had (and still has) her dogs on Pro Plan. I switched my (then) puppy to a different kibble because I was trying to boycott Nestle (who owns Purina) at the time. Otherwise, Pro Plan would probably still be my kibble of choice.

So much criticism for the dog food advisor, never been able to figure it, I must have missed something along the line, it's just a web site folks and he always states his recommendations are just his opinion, not much different from you and I, and I've actually learned some over there, example; hopefully everybody reads the ingredients on the bag, do you know what meat/poultry by-products are? Do you know where the ingredients for your dog food come from? Do you know where your dog food is processed?
Now some will say I don't care and that's fine, but don't condemn others that won't blindly put their faith and money into only a name.

I don't think anyone is condemning others' food choices. Research how you want, and make the choices you think are best for your dog. At the same time, most on this thread who are feeding the food in question noted by the OP are not doing so blindly based on a name brand only. They are feeding the food because they get the results they want for their dogs.

Personally, my youngest came home on Proplan 30/20 and as long as I'm getting the results I want with it, I'll continue to feed it. It may not score well using the dog food advisor's methodology, but I'm more influenced by my real world experience with my own dogs and by the experiences of the breeders in my circle who have been successfully competing with, and rearing generations upon generations of healthy Labradors using foods that are being tested in demanding real-world scenarios, and not just based on breaking down and rating the ingredients on the back of the bag.

If people like to read dog food advisor and rely on those ratings or use those ratings to help inform their food choices, there's nothing wrong with that. I've no doubt that everyone does the best they can for their dog, using whatever resources they deem best. There is no one perfect food out there that works equally well for every single dog. Every dog and home situation is unique.

Little bit of irony with Eukanuba, don't you think?
Of course it's marketing. We understand that. It's a win-win.

I was pretty amazed recently when I found out that the best boarding and training (specializing in retriever field sports) operation in town was using Pro-plan Performance. I was under the impression that some years ago they were doing some specialty food for whatever reason. So... I know at least 20 working retrievers on it who are doing great. Though... one I know has a colitis/malabsorption condition and it's very hard to find a food that she can gain weight on. But she's an outlier.

That's the reason why I don't trust the other brand to take care of my dogs health. Thanks for this very useful information. Until now I trust this Eukanuba puppy large breed for my dog because proven and tested that base on my experience since I switch to this kind of food.
