Hubby picked up my pre-order for the collector's edition of Assassin's Creed 2 last night. I bet it would look AMAZING on that 42"!

Man... now I want one!!

On men part - why couldn't they put stuff away when they are done?

Nancy you can tell Barney that I feel his pain.

I have to pull rank and make all the important decisions around my house too.

But, every year Barney says we can't afford it. Well, guess what he's been looking at? 46" LCD tv's!!!!! He keeps checking out all the sales on them. How come we can afford a new tv but not a new living room set? This is the difference between men and women.
I agree Nancy tell him to stop looking and forget all about the 46 Inch TV................. CAUSE HE NEEDS A 52 INCH what a perfect Christmas gift for the man of the house.

What's a hamper? Isn't the floor where I'm supposed to leave my clothes?

Our household is different. We have a Sony 24" CRT that is only about 3 years old and I fully intend to keep using it until it is at least 10 years old. I figure by then the flatscreens will be inexpensive enough for me.

As to furniture, I want to buy good, high-quality, high-durability furniture. My SO just wants to get something cheap at Goodwill. For example, I have a small dining room table, Shaker style, it's real wood, not a veneer over fiberboard, and it's in great shape. Had it 15 years and it still looks new. It's just a little bit small for when company comes over. It's perfect for just the two of us. She wants to THROW IT AWAY and replace it with a $9.99 table from Goodwill that's formica for crying out loud, on loose, hollow, metal legs. But it's a little bit bigger, so hey, she's got to have it.

We don't have a decent sofa or comfy chair in the house. Nothing but futons from when we first got out of college. I won't let her buy a smelly, used, piece of furniture that smells of cat urine and febreeze, and she won't spend more than a hundred dollars for something.

It looks like if I want something nice I'll have to buy it with my money, not household money.

Sounds like the sofa is just getting broken in We are waiting until my DD is a little more grown before getting some nice furniture. However there are going to be some great black Friday deals on LCD tv's (Walmart and Target) coming up. We have always had the saying in our house
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without! When we do buy something big we always buy the best we can afford due to the fact that the quality will remain long after the price is forgotten.

I was telling my DH about this thread and he pointedly reminded me how I won't let him buy a new couch to replace our old futon. I also won't let him buy a new tv even though ours has a picture with big green streaks. The only new thing we have bought is a bed and that's because his old one had bedbugs!! I am a student and he can't find a job, and at least one of us has to look out for the finances, right?

He finally convinced me to let him get cable on his dime, so he is excitedly waiting for this evening, when we will have more than 17 channels, five of which are home shopping. Don't tell him, but I'm secretly excited about being able to catch some Ceaser Milan : ). Calm assertiveness here I come!

It's funny because my husband wants a new 46" LCD TV too......we agreed , I don't know why, that instead of exchanging several gifts for Christmas that we would buy the TV instead. Then just get something small for each other.

Somehow I was conned into this and feel that he made out on this deal.

What is it with men and there electronic toys!!!
