Dock Dogs in Nelsonville, Ohio

Anyone competing in this one??
I think it's at the lumbejack festival, next weekend!!
If so, I want to know who to watch for!

I just heard about it on the radio! I think i will try to take that day off work to go watch!

I wish I had a lab trained for this...but I have all danes! LOL, and the 3 foster labs! I thought about taking our 3 foster boys to the local lake & seeing if they would retrieve in water!

I KNOW Phoenix would have done this, but he is going to his new home this weekend, he is currently recovering from his neuter (He had some complications)

I bet that would be good publicity for our rescue & possibly help adopt out some rescues!!

Hey take them and enter them. Who cares if they jump far or not, it's a fun experience in it's self. The first time I took Boomer I had no clue what to do. Boomer wouldn't even go off the dock. *** members helped out a bunch. I dont know if anyone told you, your dogs don't have to be labs to compete. lol. All dogs work for these things. It's just finding the patience and making it fun for your dog.

You should definintely go. Enter at leaast one of them. You and the dog will fall instantly in love with the sport. It's so much fun!! Major's first time was hilarious and he just stuck his butt high into the air and fell in, never really jumped. And everyone loved it!!

I am just scared of feeling stupid, because we have never been to one of these events, let alone entered in one.

Do you typically see a lot of people who are new to the sport show up?

Yes. They have an open dock practice time between the Waves (qualifying rounds). That time is for not only the regular competitors to practice, but also the newbies like you to try it. There will be people there to help you and show you what to do and work with you and your dog.

If you have any doubts, go on the DockDogs website and go to the Buckeye Dock Dogs forum. I'm sure a lot of those members will be at this event and they can help you out.

It really is a great sport!
