    Kong size and type?

Just wondering but what size Kong for pup? I've bought a large classic, is that too big? The medium looks so small and he will grow out of it so soon, I don't want to be wasteful. Also how about when they get bigger? Would I need to buy an XL or would the large be big enough? I'm afraid the large would be too small by then and will get chewed to pieces and choked on..

Also, for a puppy should I buy the puppy one or would the classic one be fine? I know the puppy one is softer, so does it really matter?

Lastly, how many kongs and what size do you have in rotation? What about the Kong Extreme (Black one)? Is that too much?

    Thanks in Advance!!

Sorry, one last thing...should I get tug of war toys? I heard it wasn't good to play tug of war since it may cause aggression, but it seems like many dogs enjoy tug of war? Does it really cause aggression?

I just got the red kongs for Daisy, she's not a crazy chewer though. Also, I didn't get her until she was 7 months old so I don't know but I would think the regular red ones would be fine. You'll want to get a few, so you can have them on rotation--Keep a couple in your freezer ready to go, one being washed, one with the puppy

Tug of War is great!!! Have you heard of Susan Garrett and her recallers training? If you haven't, I would recommend looking into it. She has great info on how to use tug of war in your training. Its a great way to keep puppy engaged and excited and give them a break during training sessions. You just have to teach "leave it" and "drop it".

here's one link I found: The Duration of The Tug Sessions | Susan Garretts Dog Training Blog

    Thanks!!
what size did you buy? I bought a large, but also thinking of getting an xl, would that be too big? Figured it will occupy him longer since it is bigger and also he won't be able to bite off pieces of the kong?

Hi, We are big Kong users -- Archie gets two frozen Kongs a day (so part of each meal). We have three black size L, and one black size XL. He is two years old and weighs about 75 lbs. The size L is perfect for him. The XL is really big -- it takes a lot of food to stuff it. We did use puppy, and then red, and finally black when he was about a year old.

I mix dry kibble with some Orijen freeze-dried food, water, yogurt, salmon strips, and whatever else I have around, and stuff them with that. I mix up a large portion and keep it in the fridge so it lasts a few days.

    -e
