This is why God created text messaging.

"Call me when you have signal, need to tell you something important."

That's great your taking on two. What an angel you are. When I fostered 2 4 week old lab mixes, they kept each company. I put both in Shelby's bigger crate. It was much easier to do than I thought.

As for the car, how far do you have to go? You might not want to feed them before hand. Have them crated of course, and put a sheet over the crate, minus the door. This will help with motion sickness.

Good luck, defiantly will need pictures.

OMG mstaylor you crack me up.

From your siggy pic your DH looks like a sweetie. I'm sure after the initial shock he will come around. You can always tell he that you restrained yourself because you only took 2 out of the 7!

Text or leave a voice mail for your hubby. Definitely better to let him know ahead of time and have a few days to warm up to the idea of a couple of house guests. Plus, get your starfish poem ready...what is that thing called? You know the one where the dude is saving starfish that got stranded on the beach and someone says something about not being able to make a difference and he picks up another, puts it into the ocean and says, "It made a difference to that one"...You certainly can't save all the needy dogs in the world, but you have the opportunity to make a difference for these two and that...well, that IS a huge difference to them.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

How far do you have to travel for thanksgiving?

When I was breeding Aussies, I did travel one time from KS to NYS- about a 28 hour trip, but the pups were 7 weeks and it was a family emergency (My Aunt was dying and I wanted/needed to see her and help with her care). My pups had already had their first set of shots and I brought newspaper for them and laid it down on the grass for them to go potty on. I also had the Dam with us along with the other dogs. I tried very hard not to let them step on grass. I knew the pups were healthy so my objective was to expose them to as little germs as possible.

I did not let them out at all at rest stops but I stopped off the beaten path. I brought my own water and food with me. I am not sure how that will work with 5 week old pups. I doubt they are leash trained so you'll have to try to get them used to the leash so you can potty them on leash when you travel. How far do you have to go?

Is there anyway you could take the pups after Thanksgiving instead of before?

I think it is wonderful you are saving a couple pups! Post pics when you get them!

Jess.....you are such a sweetie! Thank you for helping these puppies out!! I bet you feel so much better now that your DH knows!

I wish I could help out. I'm pretty sure DH would be upset at first, but he'd probably end up wanting to keep them!

Good Luck with the puppies! And yes, we need pix ASAP!

3 hours should be fine. Just try to limit their exposure as much as you can to where other dogs (that you don't know) have been so they don't pick up any nasty germs.

What a great husband you have!
