My lab loves water and would swim a ocean to fetch his dummy. He is always at full speed when sending him in to retrieve a dummy but just when he reaches the water he slows down and then enters the water slowly and then goes for the retrieve.

I would like him to dive in and hit the water hard. And i would not send him into water where i know he can hurt himself while diving in.

Can dock diving assist in this or not? I took him to the water this weekend and of the dock threw in his dummy but just of the edge and told him to fetch. He then moaned and wanted to jump and eventually jumped in and was then submerged for a second but retrieved the dummy. But after that jump he would not do it again.

How can i go about it and would dock diving better his water entry?

Last Saturday I took Duke to a fun jump at a local dog fest. The jump was sponsored by Splash Dogs with the entry fees donated to the local animal shelter.
The jump was from a real dock where they had a floating buoy rope extended out into the lake to measure the distance. The Splash Dog group uses a video computer measuring system just like DockDogs.
I sent Duke off the dock for a practice jump then walked back to the shore. When I turned around he was no where in sight. I ran back up to the front of the dock to see him trying to swim over the rope. He was going in circles and just as I was about to go in after him he dropped his bumper on the other side of the buoys and swam around the "correct" side of the dock and back to shore. Once on shore I pointed out where his bumper was floating so he went back in and retrieved it.
For the competition he jumped a respectable Junior Division distance of 14' 3" but I understood that they were only going to award ribbons for the whole group and not by divisions. Many dogs jumped over 19' so after the last jump we left having throughly enjoying the outing.
Yesterday in the mail was a large envelope sent from Splash Dogs from California. Inside was a ribbon for tenth place. The ribbon even had the event and date printed on it. I thought that was really nice of them to mail Duke's prize and now it's part of his growing award wall.

I was just wondering if anyone knew somewhere in Minnesota where i could take my lab and at least have her "try-it-out" (preferably indoors since it's a bit too cold outside with this Minnesota weather)

Any information would be much appreciated :)

Hailey and I attended our club's annual Spook Splash Event this past weekend and had an absolute blast! We have been unable to make the practice for over four months because of other obligations so I wasn't expecting much competitiveness and focused on just having fun.
Much to my suprise Hailey jumped in the 17" range all weekend and later set a personal best of ... 18'11 :D She was also able to successfully complete a super vertical grab of 4'2 in open practice which she's never done before and to top it all off, on Sunday she placed 2nd in the Dog Olympics Speed Retrieve by completing a 70 yrd mark in 14.21 while wearing her angel costume, of course! (the leader did 13.72)
Hailey clearly had the competition on her radar all weekend and I could not be more proud of her accomplishments. I guess she earned all the items and $50 Bass Pro gift card we won in the raffle. ;)
I also jumped a friends novice dog Dustin in vertical and got him to 5'4 which was really exciting! Obviously we had a great weekend overall and hopefully I'll get pictures from the photographer soon and be able to post them.
