MY daughter and her husband have had more than their share of bad luck this year. In April Jenny miscarried which was such a distressing time and threw them off kilter for a while. Then in July as some of you know, their litle girl Matilda broke her thigh bone, which resulted in almost 5 weeks of being tied to hospital with her while she was in traction. Then Lee got the news that his company was downsizing and redundancies were on the horizon. He had already had his hours cut and they were struggling financialy. (They've been in their own home for 2 years now and a huge chunk of their income goes on the mortgage, so you can imagine their worries.)

Well completely out of the blue Lee received an offer of an interview with another company who'd seen his resume on the internet and liked what they saw. This week he started working for them. Better company. More money. Closer to home. Bigger contracts and more prospects. (He's a civil engineer - a profession which has been badly hit by the recession because of the repurcussions in the building trade, but this company seems to be going from strength to strength).
And Jenny is almost 10 weeks pregnant!! She's being closely monitored because of her problems last time and has already had 2 scans, both of which show a healthy foetus progressing as it should.
And Matilda is now running jumping dancing and skipping as good as any other 2 year old!!

I'm so happy things have turned around for them. They were ready for a dose of good luck and along it came!

I think I will pass all of my first semester classes. At the moment:

English: Solid A. (Hmm, maybe I should become an editor . . .)

History: I have no idea. Grade is based on a two page paper (already submitted), and a 15 page paper that's parked in my head and needs to un-park itself.

Computer Applications: Teetering between an A and a B. Word and PowerPoint 2007 are pretty cool.

Documents aka keyboarding: A. Was seriously sweating this one because of the required typing speed: 35 words per minute with three errors. Somehow I stumbled over the minimum required.

Office Procedures: Low A. Though I could have written the textbook for this one, am learning some good stuff.

Business: Low A.

Math: By far my weakest class and I have a mid B?!?!?!? Huh?

Career Development: A, pending my groups' 30 minute presentation in two weeks. I have to talk for five minutes to a class of ~80 people.

So I am satisfied. Not 100% pleased, satisfied. Just don't ask me to do percents to decimals to fractions . . .

Faye is a somewhat bad influence. She drives until the 'car is inhaling the last of the gasoline vapour' light comes on. When she fills up she says 'There was still a lot of gas in the tank!' I on the other hand prefer to keep the fuel tank at least 3/8 full. When the fuel gauge drops below the 1/4 mark my attention is evenly divided between the road and the needle.

I filled the truck's tank last week before a road trip to near Kitchener and back, then drove to school and back (41 mile round trip) this week. After passing 300 miles on the trip odometer I said "Huh, wonder how far I can go." So I kept driving until today, then finally broke down and filled up.

I traveled 412.85 miles on 16.9 gallons for 24.4 mpg. Not bad for a pickup. Granted, it's a toy truck with a 4-cylinder engine and can't haul anything. Though it's almost 10 years old it has only 87,000+ miles, so it should have a great deal more life.

Soooo....DH really really wants a flat screen TV(a big one)....But he just wants to go out and buy it....but we can't afford to do that, we would have to save up for it but other things we need come up and so the TV account gets forgotten....So I just figured out a great Idea to get DH a flat screen for his birthday in June.

My work directly deposits my paychecks into my account...and they email me a statement. well I also get paid a bonus commission (pretty small) each paycheck but that comes on a separate statement. The commission amount is different each month and we don't count it in our budget since it fluctuates so much. If I want, I can have my check split and put into multiple bank accounts. so I'm going to have them take a little bit ($50-$75) each time from the commission and put it in a separate account that I'm going to keep secret from DH....and then when his birthday comes, I will have about $800 for a TV for him! and he will never know because the commission fluctuates anyways!

I was so Happy I thought of this! I'm sure you guys dont care but I was excited I just had to share. DH is always surprising me with things and I'm not good at surprising him so I was Happy I thought of this! :D
