Fart Machine
I feed my boy Brady Diamond Naturals - Chicken and Rice Formula and he loves it....only problem is, he lays some mean farts! Several times a night we'll be in the living room watching a movie or in bed sleeping and Brady will just drop a wicked nasty bomb.....is there a reason behind this? Should I switch to a different formula like lamb and rice or feed him at a different time? Maybe switch brands all together? Thanks for the help!

Probiotics can help. Here is link on the subject. Of course some will say you need to stay away from Diamond due to their recalls.

I don't always believe it has everything to do with the food of choice.....look at ourselves, seriously, there was a study done by Dr Oz, IIRC, stating that healthy humans fart up to 14 times a day and that it was a natural digesting process.
I believe the same for the dogs; some dogs are just a bit more long-winded. I have 3 dogs, they all eat the same things they have for years, 2 of them will have stinky gas a few times a week, then nothing (or nothing smelly) for weeks on end, then suddenly one of them will have some bad gas again for a few days. You can try probiotics, but I don't feel it's mandatory....I've done probiotics in the past, never noticed a difference with or without them and the good probiotics that actually make it and survive the dogs highly acidic stomach juices to provide any benefit can be very expensive. There are a ton of probiotics on the shelf, but only a slight few are actually beneficial in a dogs stomach. |

I have noticed differences with my two dogs on how much gas they have from one formula to another. To think that a dog would never have gas is probably unrealistic. But if eating a particular kibble produced a regular room-clearing scenario, I'd be tempted to try a food transition - maybe to a different brand.

While we all have gas..Dog and man alike...it is a sign of a healthy bowel..If you ever have intestinal surgery...You can't leave the hospital until you pass gas...
but too much gas is a sign of excessive fiber ..Your dog just needs a diet that he processes better....Once a diet is found that is more digestible the problem should resolve.... And as another poster said a good probiotic may help ....and allow you to stay on that food...

can't hurt to add a tablespoon of plain yogurt w/active cultures to your dog's food for a while and see if it makes a difference.
My dog is not normally very gassey but we tried a new food and she could clear the room. The next time we tried the food w/used the plain yogurt for a couple weeks and it was all good...no stink bombs |

Like another poster suggested, i do add yogurt to Zoeys food. I forgot to mention that in my previous post. I think it does make a difference and you can possibly avoid trying to figure out which probiotic is safe, what works, what doesnt and so on.
