      Waking Sierra Up

Sierra was never really one of those dogs that woke me up early to get the day started. I've always had to wake her up and tell her it was time, but she has always been good about following me right away as I walk out of the bedroom.

So I am unsure if it is her age or the weather, but this past week, I've had trouble convincing her it was time to get up, go potty, and eat breakfast. Her eyes are open when I am talking to her and telling her it is time, but instead of getting out of bed, she rolled over for a belly rub and then stayed like that even after I stop petting her. She wouldn't even follow me downstairs after I walked away. However, once she heard me open the food bin, I heard her walk downstairs to meet me the kitchen. Food is definitely the way to my dog's heart.

Anyone else's dog wanting the extra sleep time in the morning now that it is colder?

My older girls never want to get out of bed LOL! Food is the one thing that gets them up and moving, so breakfast bowls being filled will get them going. Silly dogs!

Sunnie does that when she's feeling especially anxious.

Rookie lays on his bed and snores...not at all interests in starting his day!

I've had to get Sophie up most mornings for the past 4 years. I'll get up, go to the bathroom, get dressed, get Brooks out, and she'll still be laying on the bed until I tell her time to get up.

Colder weather is better sleeping weather, plus also the Daylight Saving time switch always seems to throw them off as well. Could be getting older too. Hemi when he was a puppy up till about 2 years old, the alarm went off, time to get up get going dad. Come on lets start the day. Then sometime he started to respect the snooze. Now at little over 5 some nights after a long day of play and/or work, he will just go back in the bedroom put himself to bed an hour or so early. He always comes out though about the regular bedtime and gives me that look like aren't you coming to bed now.

I've never had a problem with Opie. I guess I'm lucky, he loves his routine yeah, but he will get up about 2 am for potty then come back in and lay on the floor by me next to the bed. He'll then wake me with slobbery ear kisses about 4:30/5:00

our Chihuahua Tamale is a whole different story. He's more of the "I'm old, I'm tired, I'm sleeping"

Sounds like Sierra is retired now and gets out of bed when she wants, ah, unless breakfast is being served.
