Yeah we joked about the hearing problem, which we know it isn't because he can hear the VittleVault opening from a half mile away. We're convinced it's the cold weather - the house was really cold that night (forgot to turn the furnace on after using the wood stove) and he was not moving from that comfy warm bed!

LOL oh Thor!
When I lived in an apartment they would go in to check things when I wasn't home (they always called). They told me that Rocky rarely got off the couch no matter what they were doing :P I figured he'd at least try to get some pets in but apparently not.
Even when I had Rocky and Penny, when my parents were visiting they would sometimes come in later in the evening after i'd gone to bed (yes - I live the party life haha). Neither Rocky nor Penny would move a muscle. One time I was fostering and OMG the foster just about lost her little mind. But in retrospect, she probably had the safest attitude about it - you know warn the master that something entirely out of routine is happening and strangers are coming into the house in the middle of the night :P
I would say it's a lab thing but Penny wasn't a lab at all :P

We have one of each. Foster will greet you at the door with a toy and wagging butt (also not great for a 'guard' dog... unless by 'guard' you mean 'come on in, friend!), and about 80% of the time Diamond can be found sleeping in bed. Sometimes, he'll wait 10 minutes or so to come down if one of us doesn't go up first!
