      TRAD At Work

      Aye Mates,

Had a nice hunt this morning. A bit of skim ice on the surface of canals we were working had me put TRAD's neoprene vest on for the first time this season. The cold weather is coming.

I'm just curious. With all the hunting you do and all the game you have, what do you do with it all? Do you freeze everything? What's your favorite recipe? I grew up in a family of deer hunters and we always had a well stocked freezer but I'm not familiar with bird hunting. Happy thanksgiving!

      Georgia,
I do have a freezer and that which is processed and not consumed freshly may be frozen for future use. I do share some with other friends tht love game but do not themselves hunt. I also belong to several clubs that often hold meetings and combined potluck dinners so I sometimes prepare a dish for those events.

As for any one favorite, that would be hard to say and often it depends on the particular game harvested. With gamebirds, we roast them, make stews and soup, smoked meats, jerky, kielbasa, sausage, etc., etc. Any "parts" we don't use after processing get left for carnivorous wildlife for food and the scavengers make quick work of consuming it. Nothing goes to waste.

At one time I did a good bit o' deer hunting and would process and put up a deer or two per year. My household family was larger then. I would also donate deer to the "HUNTERS FOR THE HUNGRY" program that would supply fresh venison for the less fortunate and community food pantry distribution programs. I really don't deer hunt any longer as I prefer to get out and hunt over the rerrievers I spend all year training with.

      Happy Thanksgiving to all.
