    Archie Is Still Itchy

Don't know what is going on. All about the same time, changed from Fromm pork and applesauce to Fromm whitefish and potato, he decided to start eating his vitamin C pill, and he got a grooming. ?? The product used when he was washed?? ??Change in food?? ??The vitamin C?? I have given him a warm water rinse off, no change. Do have Earth Bath which I have used on him in the past with no itchy results. Can get that done tomorrow. Think a change back to pork formula would help? Ever heard of vitamin C, 500 mg a day, causing itching?

I'm at a loss. Poor guy. I'm going to pick up some Benadryl tomorrow too. What I have is out of date.

Vitamin C can cause itchiness, absolutely. (I stay away from potatoes, too, because they gave Dan goopy ears.)

    Thanks!

Just finished giving him a bath with Earth Bath. He was such a pitiful, but good boy. Even let me use my hairdryer on him. He's damp but not dripping. All the drips came off in an epic shake after he got out of the tub, LOL. For quite a while he would not eat his vitamin C chewable but in the last few weeks has decided it's OK. Did not give it to him this morning. I've also noted, from the board, that potatoes can cause some problems. I like feeding it in the winter, a few fewer calories. I going to go out and get him a bag of pork. Going to exclude everything I can before taking him to the vet.

Now the waiting begins to see if this helped.

Do GSD's have a shedding cycle like Labradors? I assume they do with that thick double coat, could it be maybe he is just changing coats and is itchy, and has nothing to do with food or environment? Two of my gurls get itchy for a few days when their new coat starts growing in, I just use a conditioning spray and rub it into their coats down to skin and a few days later they are good.

Yes gsd's shed the same, if not more than labs, with the same cycle.

I would start by removing one of those things at a time to narrow it down so you know whats causing it. During the winter my dog would get a really dry coat and itch much more than in the summer, we have cold and dry winters here. That could be a factor too. the most likely thing is the food change, vitamin C, or wash.

I vote on the potato, has something in it that causes an increase in allergy sensitivity. I think it is only white potato not sweet potato. It also forms more gas in the gut. Just thinking.

It was a rhetorical question LOL ;-)
I had a ACD that put the Lab's shedding to shame, and I have thick coats on my gurls.
