Ugh! Cookie’s got a hot spot

on her neck. We trimmed back the hair a bit (it’s where her “ruff” is and the coat is really thick) and cleaned it up with some betadine and it’s much better today, but it’s right where her collar would go. I don’t think that caused it as she only wears a collar while out; I think it started in a spot where we removed a tick and she had a small scab.

Problem is, I don’t want to put a collar on her until it’s healed as I think it would be painful rubbing on it, so to take her on walks I’ll have to put her in a harness. Thankfully it’s her, not Sass who still has difficulty with the concept of loose leash walking, but even so, an 18 month old puppy on a harness (all we have are regular, not no-pull) is not my idea of an ideal situation!

Hopefully it will clear up soon - it’s looking much better already.

Worse area from a management standpoint other than the armpit. Glad to hear it is improving. Harness is the only way to go.

      Sending healing mojo.

UPDATE - just got back from walking the dogs. Cookie did GREAT on a harness. Didn’t pull at all and seemed very happy. The girls are growing up!

Of all the relatively "minor" issues we deal with, I hate hotpots the worst. Hope it clears up quick!

Darn ticks. When I saw hot spot I wondered at it appearing now the weather is cooler. I thought they were more common in hot weather when bugs bite, there is pollen and dogs swim in yucky stuff. I guess there is still yucky stuff.
