I think GSD's in general are more whiney. Bogey (a "sheprador") whines a lot. It is that and his tail--which really looks shepherd--are the only things that make him not a full Lab. His face is Labrador.
We're watching our neighbor's male German Shepherd this weekend. Gregor is very sweet, although a bit on the whiney side. He doesn't need to eat or drink or go out; I think he just misses his owner/being in his own house. He very much wants Kimber to play with him; she seems tempted but has not yet acquiesced.
It's interesting to have a different breed around! He's really not into his food (took him 10 minutes to eat his dinner), but absolutely insisted on walking the perimeter of the house. Oh, and Kimber looks tiny next to him!

Oh I love GSD's my little Annie's mom was a GSD while her daddy was a beagle I dont' remember her being whinny but my sisters GSD could be at times. My Annie loved to swim for pleasure of swimming. Now I have sweet Sarah she whines a lot high pitched too and doesn't like to swim
I hope Gregor settles down and is able to get Kimber to play with him a little during his stay.

I love gsd but they need alot of work. The perimeter patrols is the breed . Gigi is a lab gsd mix so some shepard things do show up.
I will get a gsd or a dutch shepard next when the kids are a bit grown up.

Has he been away from home before; have you had him before now?
It's always interesting to have another dog around, isn't it? To see the dynamic between one's own and the other, to see its' personality and temperament.
