Peta wants people to boycott the movie due to the treatment of the German Shepherd.
Hey all!
I'm not sure if this is already in another thread, so apologies if it's duplicate.
Is anyone planning on seeing the movie "A Dog's Purpose", or has anyone read the book? Any reviews?
It's very rare I want to go see a movie in the theatre, but with the passing of my sweet beloved dachshund, Charlie, a few months ago, I feel like I want to see this movie more than anything. I usually avoid animal movies because they always have to throw some sad moments in there (thanks, directors). I still can't bring myself to watch Marley and Me.

i won't be giving them any money.
Waiting for more information. I am wary of anything PETA does. They are going against hte place where the dogs were trained.
i don't deny what was done to the dog in that video was wrong but we don't have info on if the production company knew, had rules on treatment of animals, etc. etc. etc.

Director horrified over 'dog abuse' on A Dog's Purpose | Daily Mail Online
"The 35-year-old actor, a PETA supporter and 'proud owner of a rescued dog' said he had since reached out to the production team and studio 'to ask for an explanation for these disturbing images.'
Early Thursday, the film's producer, Gavin Polone, told Deadline he too was 'horrified' by what he saw in the video.
The producer demanded that 'people have to be held responsible for this', adding that if he had spotted this during filming he would have 'stopped it in a minute.'
'American Humane are supposed to be there supervising. That’s their job that someone is paid a lot of money to do. Why wasn’t this stopped?' he asked.
'There needs to be a better system than this.'
American Humane responded saying they were 'concerned' by the footage and have placed the safety representative who was on the set on administrative leave.
They are also bringing an independent third party to investigate."

the production has SO MUCH to lose by having lax standards in the care of the dogs in the movie given the topic and primary crowd. Someone really really dropped the ball there. But was it the error of a group of people at that one filming or the entire production?
The question about who was on set supervising to ensure appropriate care is a good.

I completely agree. I know in days past, animal welfare on movie sets wasn't even something that most would bat an eye at. With today's strict rules and regulations, I can't believe something like this could happen. I've also learned to be weary of the news - are we getting the full story? Yes, the dog clearly looks in distress. Yes, my heart breaks for it. But what are we not being told?
I'm not trying to justify the actions at all, I just wish we could get the full story. And regardless, at the end of the day, this is a sad situation all around.
I also have a personal conflict going on inside of me now too. I don't want to support these kinds of actions by purchasing a movie ticket. However, I look for comfort wherever I can now after the passing of my sweet Charlie, and I was really looking forward to seeing this movie.... although, how much comfort would it actually provide now.
Ack. I hate this kind of stuff.
I am skeptical about a few seconds video on the news or facebook. They also said this was a trained trick the dog has done before and he just didn't want to do it that day. We don't know what happened in the minutes or days before or after that was filmed. The scene was in the movie, so the dog did do it successfully. There are also many dogs in the movie and this is the only video? I'm just skeptical.
A few days ago I let Latte and Mocha out. Latte is not really very consistent at recall, yet, so I had her on the 20' leash. In less than a minute, she had the leash wrapped around and weaved through my limelight Hydrangea. I was trying to keep her still so she didn't break off the branches but she just kept wiggling (trying to chase Mocha). I unhooked the leash and lead her by the collar into the house. She was fighting me the whole way. She wanted to run loose and play and was twisting my wrist around. So the "leading her across the driveway" turned into dragging her. If someone would have taken a 5 second video of our journey across the driveway, they would be outraged at me dragging a poor defenseless puppy by the collar. I was trying to get her safely into the house. The 5 second video would have in no way been an indicator of how Latte is treated.
That's just my 2 cents.
I wouldn't want someone doing that to my dogs. I would flip.
