You miss the point of what a reputable breeder does completely. For the kind of breeder I support, and many here suppprt, and the kind of breeders who are active on this site, breeding IS NOT A JOB. Let me write that again, Not. A. Job. It is a hobby, a passion, a calling, the breeders on here can speak for themselves. Ask the breeders here how many of them live off their puppies? How many of them have jobs outside the home to pay for/defray the costs of their dog pursuits?

Also, what we all pointed out were not "negatives" but common occurrences, par for the course, calculated risks involved in breeding. Breeding the right way is not for the faint of heart.

"Why not just quit?" Maybe because without reputable heritage breeders Labradors would just devolve further into being any random, short-coated, medium-largish, black, brown, or yellow dog with drop ears and a long tail. As it is, there are so many "breeders" whose #1 job is to sell puppies, as you thoughtfully point out above, that we are pretty much at that point already.

Isn’t there a forum for professional, reputable, hobbyist breeders? You’d be able to dazzle others with textbook knowledge while “saving” the breed and won’t have to put up with average lay-people that just have questions on day-in-day-out problems like food, behavior, or how to remain sane now that you have your dog, etc..
When something comes up that requires your vast knowledge and experience we would send them your way.
