This became a talking point on my local raw feeding facebook group. It was mentioned that cattle are not likely to be put down with phenobarbital, they are usually dispatched with a bolt or bullet to the head. It would take a very large amount of phenobarbital to euthanize a cow, and in the meat industry in general would not be very cost efficient. However horses are more typically considered pets, and perhaps a horse would be euthanized with phenobarbital. And at the end of the day horse meat looks like cow meat, and the poster in my group was wondering if maybe that could have happened and horse meat ended up mixed in with the beef. And there is of course the concern about euthanized cats and dogs being used in dog food. For Evangers, I can see horse meat maybe getting in there, and I do think even the most reputable dog food companies may not always be 100% accurate with their ingredients list. I like to think that euthanized cats and dogs ending up in dog food moreso happens with the types of dog foods you can buy at the grocery store or Walmart, but who knows.
