    Metal or wooden crate?

Trying to decide on a crate. I've had a metal one in the past and it served its purpose. This time I was looking at the wooden end table crates (trying to make it look more pretty since it will be in my living room). I'm kind of concerned about the puppy chewing/eating the wood. Anyone have a wooden crate and how did that work out?

    Thanks.

Oh yeah. The puppy will eat the wood.

Wooden crates are trouble waiting to happen for puppies IMO. I have two people in my personal friend circle (one Bulldog puppy; other family had English Springer puppy) who got wooden crates and both puppies managed to chew their way through them. One ingested a lot of wood, and got impacted. Personally, I wouldn't do wooden crates with mouthy sporting breeds or bully breeds or any other type that is known to be mouthy and hard on toys/things. Maybe for something like Chihuahuas...I don't know. :-O

If that's something you're interested in I would wait. Probably for a long time. Get it waaaaay after your puppy is done chewing otherwise he'll use the crate for teething.

Ugh! That's what I fear. I'm wondering if I can get a metal crate and build a table around it...

Honestly, there will be so many changes in his first 6 months. When we first got Bear we removed our kitchen table and La-Z-Boy and constructed a puppy palace. We only needed the setup for maybe 3 months before everything was put back. My point is that this is such a temporary time frame with temporary needs that an ugly crate in the middle of the living room isn't the worst thing. You could also maybe consider your kitchen or your bedroom for keeping the crate more out of sight. I will also say, Bear wouldn't sleep at night unless he was in the bedroom with us in his crate. I think he was insecure, but you never know where these little guys are gonna lead you.

Wayfair has a bunch that are metal crates with decorative frame that double as end tables.

Yeah, I was thinking about putting the crate in our bedroom too. I'm a light sleeper though so not sure how that will work. Welshies are suppose to be velcro dogs so I can't imagine he's gonna be happy alone downstairs... we'll see. I also can't imagine leaving that cute fuzzy butt alone down stairs. Probably just wanna snuggle with it

Yes, I was thinking along those lines. I also so a bunch of DIY on Pinterest. So I can just buy the metal crate and build some table around it. Perhaps that'll work.
