I think 1500 is average too, but there may be high or low outliers that are also well bred

i guess we're lucky here in maine....well bred, parent clearences, and nice lines on both bench and field are running 800-1200. there are many lab breeders here of all types. seems like 75 % of the dogs are labs. i don't have any numbers to back that up. i live in the western mountains. 16 miles from canada and labs are in almost every vehicle. it's great.

Voodoo asked is everyone paying these prices, the short answer is yes, otherwise no breeder would charge it.
It’s all about supply and demand; cars, motorcycles, ammo, or cute little pups.
You could get an average price for an area if you had access to what folks had paid, but since that’s not available, we pass along what someone said who got it from someone else.
Whenever I’m asked what’s a fair price for this or that, I tell them whatever someone will pay.

I just want a everyday average healthy puppy, does that mean 2k + nowadays?

    your thoughts?
Puppy prices vary wildly by region. The East and West coasts have the higher prices for good litters, the Midwest can be lower. Generally speaking, $1500 - $2200 is the range I see the most, unless it is a super special litter/breeding. Just make sure you pass a breeder you are looking at through one of the breeders on here before you commit. Not all breeders are equal as you know, even at that price point. I try to keep my prices low enough that an average family can afford a nice puppy, many around me charge more than I do.

Having just gone thru this, it seems in my area anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500 is the "normal" range. And yes, a pet from a good breeder will cost the same - i don't know of any breeders local to me that charge different prices for the pups in the same litter. And, most of these litters are spoken for before they're born.

Luckily, this time around you have the opportunity to get help finding a good breeder if you want to avail yourself of it.

In response, I would just say that when I got Chase I did not have the benefit of this lab board to ask about his breeder or his parents. I felt very comfortable with the breeder and we have been extremely happy with good old Chasey, who is now 10 1/2 years old, even though our relationship with the breeder has been pretty... hands off from her side. With Lark, I could tell that one of the breeders who is a member here had actually bred one of her boys to Larky's Mom in the past and I was able to get some feedback from this breeder on the parentage of our little girl, even if she was not specifically familiar with the breeder I was working with. I was able to get some history on the parents, temperament, her direct knowledge of the Mama, that sort of thing. I found it very valuable and comforting to get this sort of assurance. (Thanks, Piccadilly!) So, I think your description of the breeders on here is not accurate and if anything, I'd characterize it as insulting. Those with whom I've had direct contact I have found terrifically helpful and not at all self-absorbed nor full or themselves. I'd suggest you not cast aspersions upon those with whom you have had no personal contact based upon some impression you have of "breeders". My idea of your opinions is based solely upon what I've seen you write on here when in fact, you may be much nicer and open minded than your posts on here suggest.

The price is all over.i have seen lab puppies from 2000 to 200 in new england . Gigi I got for 400 but she has a chocolate male and yellow lab/gsd mix female. But we saw the dogs and the 10 puppies . It was a bit more for a mix but I like the owners and the parents so paid . Seems 800 is a price that nets a nice specimen.
