Our guys listen to public radio, pledge week is rough. We feel the radio noise masks any outside noise so it's kind of a buffer. On the relationship end, I don't know if it's a red flag per se, but we are a 'mid career' marriage and we too have different views on our pups, 'loving, but just a dog' vs. me who is a bit more to the other side. Hasn't broken us up but we were mature and realized that at our age, we've already got our styles and habits pretty established and neither was going to change the other. Just check it out a bit, not a deal breaker but worth exploring.

    What? No Animal Planet!!!????

To me it's not a question that has a right or wrong answer, it's what YOU what to do with/for YOUR dogs. Personally I've never left anything on for them, and it's never seemed to matter. However, it's I don't believe it should be a sticking point in a relationship. I've been married going on 38 years, and I can tell you one secret to success is this little thing called comprise that has served me very well over all these many years.

I will second the radio idea. One thing: I was told that the newer TV screens can wear out years faster than the old tubes if left on a lot. Maybe the boyfriend thinks that is a possibility, too, for a big flat screen TV.

We only leave a light on, no noise.

We weren't there to hear the conversation. Maybe it sounds "worse" than it is, but in any relationship honesty and compromise are key. I'm sure you've already talked about future plans, but these should also include the dogs. His and your expectations for both sets of dogs. Talk it out, plan, and figure out as many details as possible before the big move to minimize surprises after the move.

I used to leave the TV or radio on whenever we left the house. Then I realized Lucy spent most of the time upstairs on our bed away from the noise so I stopped leaving the radio or TV on. No difference in her behavior, I don't think she cares one way or another.

I don't leave anything on when I leave. When I am there, I don't always have something on either. I know a lot of people who do though.

I actually don't have a TV (everything I watch is on the computer or tablet), so I do leave the radio on. Even before the dog came to live with me, I left it on for the birds.

This may be a silly question but...

I read an interesting study recently that found dogs who listen to reggae or soft rock are less stressed https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog...-and-soft-rock
