    Lost Dog. Again. ARRGGGHHHH

On a local FB Lost Dog site a foster dog escaped, was found, was adopted out the next day, the adopter fell while walking her and now she's lost again in a different town. It just makes me grit my teeth.

I checked the FB last night, she was found. Both times all huddled up in a little ball, hiding in a small corner. Poor little thing, lost twice in unfamiliar areas, she must have been terrified. I guess people can't help it if they fall on ice (which I'm guessing is what happened) but these recent rescue dogs keep going missing.

There is a rescue not far from Toronto Ontario that it seems has a large number of adopted dogs lost soon after adoption. I find it odd. Best guess is the dogs are mostly from other countries and brought in and kept at the rescue's facility where they are cared for but maybe don't get any exposure to "city life" (or even "suburb life"). So the fearful ones end up scooping off and are hard to catch as they are scared of humans. Most seem to be found eventually though.

Some dogs are very hard, especially the fearful ones (non aggressive, just very fearful of humans). You can tell people, but most are just not "used to" handling such a dog. VERY easy for a dog to slip their collar or scoop out a door when the humans are not used to being SUPER careful. Normal stuff we all do and not considered "taking chances" is a huge risk with some of these dogs.

There was a seizure of husky-type mixes not far from here. Some of them ended up at a shelter and a few taken in by 2-3 rescues. ALL of them at one point escaped. Some from the shelter (possibly on a walk); some from their fosters, some from their adopted homes. In fact, one died the day of their adoption (I can't remember if the dog was officially in the hand of adopters but I think so - but not long). One the rescue I volunteered for got away from their adopters twice. Lots of "talk" that the rescue shouldn't return the dog to the adopters but they were super involved in finding the dog and we gave them one more chance. It's been a few years now and there haven't been any further incidents. My friend fostered another one of these dogs and while she didn't lose them, the adopter did. It was awful as they were an hour away and did VERY little to help find her. They didn't want her back, she got loose as they took the line off her to bring her in the house. Anyway it was about 3 weeks and she eventually went to my friend (the foster). She was adopted months later and i've met up with her a few times. Her adopters are SUPER careful with her and she's come a long way (but will always be a very fearful dog).

I've seen this from time to time on a rescue's FB page as well. They always seem to be found by volunteers who go looking. Having had a fearful dog, you can take all the precautions in the world but as a human, you can still slip up. I'd still wonder though if different dogs kept getting lost.

OMG, there's a new one today. The 5 month old puppy was just adopted and now it's run off. Looks like the new owner hadn't even had it for a whole day.

It's one of the Northern Ontario rescue dogs and the lost notice says it is probably scared and not to approach it. Just report if you see it.
