...to join our Labs in the show ring in a few months. I just read the AKC secretary's minutes in today's gazette, and it looks like AKC has approved moving the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje from Miscellaneous to the Sporting Group. I have one of these very cool little tolling dogs in my handling class. Super smart pup in a cute little package. They are new to AKC, but like many breeds, have been recognized in other countries for years. I'm really excited for my classmate and her dog, and for all the American Kooiker breeders who have been working toward this goal for years. More competition for Labs in the group ring though. Lol!

I need pronunciation help on that one! Off to find out more
Rocky and Penny (Feb 10 2013 - July 23 2016)
Not sure how to pronounce the name, but they are really good looking dogs!
There's one in our village, Duke. I can pronounce that name. When his owner says the breed name it sounds to me like she's saying Kookermungie. They are a very interesting looking little dog. At the time Duke was imported he was only one of very few in Canada. He was obtained for breeding which I guess was going to be AI.
^ Thanks. Was struggling with the pronunciation.
Good looking dog.
The name is certainly more of a mouthful than "Labrador Retriever." I guess it helps us Americans and Canadians that our breed's name originated in an English-speaking country. There are so many other long breed names though. My favorite is Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen. The name of that breed tells you everything you need to know about it, lol -- petit (little) basset (low) griffon (wirehaired) Vendéen (from Vendée). :-)
cool! and they are a tolling breed? akc site doesnt seem to have a "purpose" or "history" section, but does have some other interesting info
are they a Dutch breed?

I want a pudlepointer strictly so I can keep saying the breed name :P I was searching rare/uncommon/old pointing breeds the other day and found a few I like (couldn't remember the names anymore). Would be both fun and annoying to have a "rare" breed. Funny enough those rare breeds could satisfy some of the "designer mixes" niches.
