    Lake Berryessa pictures inside

I thought you guys would find this interesting!

We took the boat to Lake Berryessa a few weeks ago, the lake is the fullest it has been since 2006. This lake has a very interesting spillway, there is a dam, but the lake drains through a Bell Mouth spillway, they call Lake Berryessa's Famous Bell Mouth, the "Glory Hole".

For obvious reasons, there is restricted access to the Glory Hole from the water, with buoys and a barrier, we went to go look at it by boat (safely of course, from a distance of several hundred yards). Interestingly enough, we could not even see the Glory hole from the lake level, because, duh, we were AT lake level. Normally the Glory Hole is way above the lake surface, when it is level, you can barely see a ripple in the water where the Glory Hole is. My pictures from there were unimpressive to say the least.

On the way home after we pulled the boat out of the water, we stopped at the viewing area, so I could get some pictures, the lighting was late afternoon and just perfect! You can feel the power of the water in my images, it is spectacular!

I included a link to the spillway to read about, and there is also some drone footage of the Glory Hole from above, that is really cool and worth watching, as well as pictures of the Glory Hole during the drought and way out of the water.

    Enjoy!

    How cool is that?!!!

Yeah...you definitely wouldn't want to be getting too close by boat.

That looks very cool! So, the other end of it drains where- out the side of the dam? I guess if it hasn't been high enough to go through the spillway since 2006, it never goes over the top of the dam, huh?

The water from the Glory Hole drains into a river. The bottom opening of the Glory Hole, is often used as a skateboard and bicycle ramp/tube and has a lot a graffiti in it. The opening narrows slightly as it descends, and makes an elbow shape, before a long path to the opening.

    Pictures might explain it better
    The Monticello dam

The Glory Hole in relation to the dam

The outlet of the Glory Hole in dry/drought or during the dry season conditions

And finally with water flowing out of it.
