I had her at a big Obedience trial the past 3 days and she did AWESOME, but what I wanted to share was something that happened yesterday. Because it was Saturday we had a lot of “civilians” wandering around watching and checking out the dogs. There was a woman with a small boy, maybe about 4? The child was obviously a little apprehensive about the dogs (and seemed a little “off” in general - like maybe mildly autistic?), and the mom, who clearly was a dog lover was trying to pique his interest by showing him these nice, well-behaved Obedience dogs. They were walking through the crating area, and walked near a group of toy poodles, who while nice enough out of their crates are very crate aggressive and started barking and lunging to the point they moved the crate.
The boy was justifiably freaked out, but his mom got him calmed down and they walked on down to where Chloe and I were. I offered to take Chloe out of her crate so they could meet her as I know she would be fine. Chloe has had a lot of experience meeting kids who are apprehensive as it happens a lot at the park where a parent will see how well behaved she is and ask if she can meet their kid as a way of showing the kids that dogs aren’t scary. She is friendly yet calm, doesn’t jump on people and is happy to see people without being overly pushy. The mom was very grateful for the offer, so I did. The boy didn’t want to pet her, but did stand quietly to let her sniff him and then watched with interest his mom petting her while Chloe just stood, smiled, and quietly wagged her tail. Seemed to calm him down about the dogs quite a bit.
Hoping that helped ... it’s alway sad to me to see kids who are scared of dogs.

How great! I hate to see kids afraid of dogs also. Chase can manage a decently calm intro but you identified the perfect word for Lark's approach- pushy. I'm glad Chloe proved such a fine ambassador for the lab community!
Very nice!!! I'm betting that little boy talked about meeting Chloe all the way home!
That's wonderful. Chloe sounds like a great dog. My new puppy is reminding me the work that goes into making one of those LOL
Good job Chloe!!! Hopefully the boy will realize that dogs are wonderful companions and just maybe talk mom into getting a puppy. Wouldn't that be so wonderful because of Chloe?

Chloe is a good ambassador for all dogs, and especially Labs.
P.S. Soon as I wrote "ambassador" it looked like a designer breed. LOL.
Good on you and Chloe for being great ambassadors for the breed. It makes me sad too when kids (or adults) are scared of dogs. I will say, however, that some parents need to be better educated about how best to let their kids approach dogs. My dogs encounter kids all the time on morning walks because we live near an elementary school, and there are times when parents are just gabbing away and their very small children run over to my dogs and will use loud voices and just get in their faces and throw their arms around their necks and SQUEEZE!!!! There are instances when kids run across a side street to get to us! The children could easily be hit by cars! I always tell the little ones that they shouldn't run up to any dog, but should always ask permission before touching a dog. Luckily, my dogs are friendly, and have never had a bad reaction to something like this happening, but it's never a good idea to squeeze the living daylights out of any dog.
good girl Chloe, and good on you for seeing the situation and offering to let Chloe show how nice dogs can be

My specific neighborhood seems to be about 1/2 purebreds and 1/2 mixed breeds just based on the dogs in neighbors' yards and who I see out walking dogs on a regular. Lotsa little yappers, but also some cool dogs like Borzoi and Bernese Mountain Dogs. One family in my neighborhood has a Lab from one of my breeder friends; the rest are clearly pet bred/BYB. I get stopped regularly by people asking about my dogs. Most times it's because they have a dog from someone in my club or another local breeder, are surprised to see nice Labs, and want to know if our dogs are from the same breeder or related.
