    Shipping a dog

Hey folks. May seem like a newbie question but figured I'd stick my newb neck out anyway. I live in Georgia and I'm interested in a pup in Kansas. I've never experienced shipping a dog. How safe is this for the dog and what are some things I should look for or request from the shipper? Thanks in advance for your input.

Do a Google Search for Adventure Bound Gun Dogs / The Gundog Express and talk with owners Chuck and Heather. Transportation of sporting dogs is a huge part of their business and they are extremely good at what they do. I have used their services and they are highly recommended. Good service at a good price, pups and adult dogs transported safely. I had a pup delivered from Kansas to CT and could not have been more pleased. Good luck with ye new pup. A Double TT dog by any chance??? If so, which Sire X Dam breeding?

The breeder should also be helping with this. If they are a big enough operation, this is probably a common occurrence. Small breeders have some different restrictions and usually can't ship to a sight-unseen buyer. Is there a reason you want this dog from so far away?

I imported two puppies from the UK. They were shipped at 10 weeks old per international regs. My daughter has used United PetSafe to ship her cat and Golden Retriever from Hawaii to Baltimore, then ship the Golden to the UK and back. They do a very good job.

Last summer I was able to get a puppy from Windycanyon who is on this board. She's in Washington state and I'm in Delaware. I flew out when the pup was 8 weeks old and brought him home with me in a small carrier in the cabin that fit right under the seat in front on me. Most airline will allow this, I flew Southwest and they charged $95 to bring the puppy on the plane. I felt a lot better knowing the pup was with me, and not in the cargo hold.

Thanks for all the great feedback folks. Again, my first time so I was curious how common. Sounds like the process is regulated well also. As for why am out of state pup. My wife essentially fell in love and we just HAD to have this pup. Lol!! Thx again!
