Bacon's Awesome Spring Snow Goose Hunt

Jake, Bacon and I just got back from our South Dakota spring snow goose hunt. We did 2 solid 14 hour days, hunting dawn to dusk. Bacon did absolutely amazing, marking each bird, and several times chasing after crippled birds.

First day, 25 birds, 3 of which we are thinking about mounting!

Second day, slower migration day, 13 birds.

We did shoot a goose with a band on it!

Bacon got to stay in the kennels during our hunting trip with the rest of the hunting dogs. Every morning I got to go wake him up (very early!) and I was greeted with this cute little nose [emoji4]

Love the nose peeking out, that's too cute! What do you do with all those birds? (Obvi, I'm not a hunter!)

We breasted them and are freezing them! We use game meat in a lot of recipes! Usually just marinade in a little orange juice to mellow out the flavor then use it like I would chicken!

Definitely a lot of goose! We eat a lot of game meat! Many of the larger guide services donate a majority of the meat to a food shelf! There is no limit on spring snow goose, so there is a lot of meat to go around!

What a great hunt. We also make pepperettes from goose breasts. Went to a meeting last night and the fields were just full of Canada geese returning to the area. There must have be a couple of thousand by the marsh but still not as many as the snow geese populations you get out west. We have been lobbying for a spring goose hunt but can't get the ministry to pass it.
The ast picture of Bacon on the flop could pass for M.
