    Do puppies ever get tired?!

Ok. I'm starting to think that Archie is channeling Jules or something because, boy, DOES THIS DOG HAVE STAMINA! Holy hell! We literally spent TWO HOURS playing yesterday and he was just GO GO GO! Why did I do this again?......

Yesterday morning Archie decided to demonstrate his abilities of fitting into small spaces by climbing under the deck! Mind you, the space under the deck is just big enough for me to squeeze half of my arm in there. Our deck is big. He sniffs under there and I didn't even get a chance to grab him before under he went. He climbs under there and I run into the garage screaming to my husband "ARCHIE GOT UNDER THE DECK AND I CAN'T SEE HIM!!!" So I grab a squeaker toy because he's obsessed with them and start squeaking and calling his name. My hubby comes out and we're both in mud trying to see where he is under there. Meanwhile he's just crawling around exploring.

Finally he decided "hm, maybe I'm done. I should come out." but he couldn't figure out how. So then he tries to stick his nose out of the closest opening. I finally grab his collar but he can't fit through! So, naturally, he's freaking out while I'm holding him. I had to let go because he was not gonna fit. Then I tell my husband, "grab the shovel and dig a hole here!" He digs. Archie moves. I'm on all fours trying to locate him. Finally, he comes out on the other side covered in mud. I'm covered in mud. OMG I almost had a heart attack!!! So we take him for a bath. He was terrified. He was so exhausted that while drying him off he was beginning to shiver and fall asleep. He was just trying to hide for cover and sleep. So I wrapped him up in a towel and put him on his bed next to me. He slept all morning.

Of course, because he slept half the day he was CRAZY HYPER all evening. Like, bonkers hyper. Like, I felt that I just got another Jules as a puppy on my hands (something I was looking to avoid!) Then I start doubting my decision... uh oh... do I really need another crazy puppy? OMG what have I done. I was hoping he would be a bit more calm than Jules. I cannot believe that it took 2 hrs to tire out an 8 week puppy. How is he gonna be in 6 months?!?! :-O ok... just breeeaaathe

One of the things I've discovered with puppies is just because they are moving doesn't mean they aren't tired. Sophie was non-stop perpetual motion, and in to everything. I quickly realized a lot of the problem was she was over tired, so when I determined she needed a nap, into the crate she went. She would fight it, whining barking etc, but I'd ignore her, and within 10 minutes she would be sound asleep. Bruce was a pretty good puppy, and he would usually settle and fall asleep on his own. Brooks was pretty horrible, but from what I learned from Sophie, I'd kennel him before he turned into a complete a$$. Brooks grew out of it at about 8 months old.

And yes, if there is somewhere they aren't supposed to go or something they aren't supposed to have, they will immediately go right to it. Bruce was infatuated with going under the stairs to my deck, I ended up blocking it off to keep him out.

Ohmygod, the puppy prints in the tub! (the deck story sounds awful, but since it had a happy ending I can just laugh, and squeee at the photos.)

I still have a little garden fence blocking the side of our deck where Chase could have gotten under there so I have a very clear idea of what you were dealing with. Oh gosh, those bath photos are so cute. "I'm sorry, Mama, but I'm not going to learn anything from this experience, I might do it again." You do know that when they nap they're just recharging their batteries...

He tried to do it again 3 hrs later!!! This time I was like mama bear. Leaped to him and grabbed him by his paw before he could go under. We're going to plug every hole outside. Until then he's staying on a leash!

You are totally right. This morning he was doing the same thing. After 2 hrs I had enough. Just put him into his crate and went to the office to work. He whined for 2 minutes and fell asleep.

Sounds like a totally normal, happy puppy. Being on my 3rd puppy in 7 years, my advice is to enjoy the ride. They are so little for such a brief, sweet time.
