    Canine Cooling Coats?

I'd love to be able to take the boys out and about this summer, but especially for Sam, my big black boy with a bear's coat, they get so hot. I try to go out early and hit spots with shade, but it's still difficult for him and I really need to get some weight off of him and get his endurance up for shows. Training classes are canceled if it hits 90 degrees, but in anything over about 70 Sam becomes a zombie. I have a show coming up and it is outside. I didn't think to ask before entering and recently discovered my classes will be at the end of the day, aka, the hottest part of the day.

Someone suggested cooling coats, specifically the Ruffwear Swamp Cooler. I looked it up online and the reviews were positive.

    Thoughts? Experiences? Recommendations?

    Thanks!

The problem with the Swamp Cooler is that it works only in direct sun....totally based on evaporation. I had one for Baffle.

I got ChillyBuddy jackets for Sunnie and Danny....work in sun/shade/nighttime. They're lighter to wear, even wet, reflect heat waves...not just sunlight...and work on cloudy days as well as at night.

    Cooling

I've recommended these to a lot of people and gotten really good feedback. My guys wouldn't be outside without theirs if they had to be in direct sun with temps much over 60 degrees....these are hot little doggies.

I also have the Chilly Buddy that was recommended above. Very happy with it, works wet or dry. And it's very light weight, unlike the swamp coolers.

And taking weight off (especially on a competition dog) will make a huge difference.

I've certainly noticed positive changes already, but not so much in the heat. He's a tough one to get the weight off of, too!

Clean Run: Chillybuddy Canine Cooling Jacket

Got mine from Clean run, their sizing guide was spot on. Our only problem is that Indy is super skinny and long so we had to get a replacement belly band. But its a great product!

The Sport stays in place better, especially if there's running.

I bought mine a while back....online from The Paws Mahal. More recently the prices were better elsewhere but I forget the names of the other places. The CB website has a store locater....there was no one local to me selling them so I bought online.

I use neck coolers to keep myself cool when working in the Texas sun. I have seen them for dogs but haven't used them on our dogs yet. The trick is to get them soaked properly but then store them in the refrigerator in Ziplok bags. When they get warm swap them out. When I travel I 'll put them in the cooler in the same Zip-lock bag.
