Update on Cassie - 10 Weeks Post-op TTA

It feels like it has been forever but it is just 10 weeks since Cassie underwent her TTA procedure to repair her knee. She's been a pretty good patient even though she really, really wanted to run around like a crazy dog on several occasions. Today she returned to Boston for her final postop exam and x-rays to confirm proper healing. She couldn't eat this morning just in case they needed to sedate her for the x-ray. From 5 am to 9 am when we left for the doctor's, Cassie kept nudging me and walking over to her bowl. She just couldn't believe the service this joint was offering - no breakfast? I eat every day at 5 am!

The x-rays went fine. Thankfully she responded to the WAIT command and stood still long enough for them to get the x-ray. The doctor walked her back to me in the waiting and brought treats. She is now Cassie's favorite doctor. The knee joint looks great! All of the bone has filled in properly and she didn't loosen, bend or break any of the hardware they installed.

So now we have the go to begin a slow and steady return to her training. She is back to walking about 3 miles a day. She still has quite a bit of atrophy of the calf muscles but the doctor said it would take a full 6 months for her to be fully back to before surgery condition.

Thanks for all the good thoughts through this ordeal.

    Jack

    Jack,
So glad to see the outcome of this for both CASSIR and yeself. As mentioned in our recent conversation, swimming weather is not too far off and water work will be a great low impact route to furthering CASSIE'S full recovery. Best of luck with it going forward and as always I am just a phone call away should ye wish to bounce any concerns off o' me. Looking forward to seeing ye at some HT's this season and at a pup pick with Chris in June.

We are week 3 post TTA today and "feels like forever, is an understatement! Is there any advice you can give us to get through? The hardest part has been my husband and I rotating sleeping on a mattress on the floor with Stella and a potential need to board her around week 8.
