peeing problem - 12 year old

In the last couple of months Cilek needs to go out more often. Most of the time I'm going home during my lunch breaks.
I'm taking her out at 8 am, noon, 6 pm and midnight. Sometimes, if I do not go home at my lunch break, she pees, sometimes she holds. She may pee home even if I took her out at noon too.
Yesterday I went to bed at 12 midnight and she immediately wanted to go out. So I took her. Then at about 3 am she again woke me up. I thought this can't be a potty need and I ignored her (I was so sleepy). Then she peed in my bedroom and fell on her pee because of her bad legs(
One time when I came home from work I found her behind the outdoor lying and cannot stand up because she slipped and fell on her pee It is not she slipped because she stepped on her pee, her back legs are not strong enough, she has difficulty in maintaining the peeing position.

I took her to the vet twice if there was something wrong with her kidneys or anything else, nothing found. 5 months ago she had a full check-up, including kidney function and diabetes, Everything is perfectly normal.

Anyway, I want to ask for some opinions on how to manage this.
She cannot have a free access to the backyard when I'm not home because that would be dangerous.
We do not have a balcony.
When she pees she may fall especially if the surface is slippery.
I'm considering to setup something at home for her to pee safely but at the same time I wonder if this would make any negatives on Tilya and the cat.

My best guess is that her bladder muscles have weakened if infection and kidney issues have been ruled out.
There are diapers for dogs and I would use those with Cilek.

I second the thought of using diapers. I don't know what you have in mind for a "pee spot" for Cilek but I can't imagine anything that would negatively affect the others...you may just end up with three critters using Cilek's special place.

Depending on exactly what is going on with her legs, that may also be affecting the sensations she gets...or doesn't get...associated with the need to pee. She may be getting more frequent sensations, making her think she really has to pee more often when before she would be able to hold it....or she may not sometimes be getting that information when she really does have to go. My Hershey's spinal stenosis got him to the point of not even realizing that he had a bladder...and that was fairly long after he started having major problems with his hind legs. And like Elena says, her bladder muscles may also easily be losing strength.

If you use diapers, be sure to coat Cilek's skin in the surrounding area with something like vitamin E ointment to prevent urine scald.

Poor girl. I know Hershey always seemed humiliated by the whole loss-of-legs thing (we also think he had breakthrough pain, though) and when his bladder went...well....that's when our decision was made for him. He was hiding in the house. He still liked his short walks but you could tell he was seriously uncomfortable with basically anything else. It sure looks and sounds like Cilek still has her interest in things...great picture of the two of them enjoying the sun, by the way...so it's just finding the best way to control the specifics of her lack of pee control. Good luck finding something that works for all of you. One of the stores around here carried diapers that would fit a Lab...PetSmart....so I imagine you might not have too hard a time finding them in Turkey or online. Fingers crossed. Cutting a tail hole in human diapers would work, too, I imagine. Hopefully she'd leave one alone and wouldn't try to rip it off...or Tilya wouldn't get the idea to pull it off (you'd want to make sure of that before you left them alone together or Cilek could get hurt by having her diaper yanked off her).

    Good thoughts headed your way!

Yeah, now that Barb mentioned it, could be spinal issues as well, causing her hind end weakness. Many older labs have issues with arthritis in the spine unfortunately. Maybe you can x-ray the spine, see if there is an issue there and if you can do something to improve it. Physical therapy and swimming for exercise are great to ease the pain and improve muscle tone.

We use beds with mattress pads on top for our Nikki who is periodically incontinent. Then we do a lot of laundry. We also give her Vet Resources Incontinence.

Poor girl. Stihlbestrol (sp?) really helped Whisper but I don't think she was as bad. That was a long time ago and it's not a favoured drug for urinary incontinence these days and maybe by now there is something better, safer. Me, I would strongly favour relief over long term risks from a drug. Even short term risks, depending on age. Ditto pain relief if there is something hurting in her back. Though with Jet, we did not see faecal incontinence till After she started her pain meds and we always wondered if the meds reduced sensitivity so that she couldn't tell when she needed to poop. Poop is easier to deal with than pee, pick it up, throw it out.

Thank you Barb. I'll certainly take her to the vet, I never thought about spinal issue.
She has arthritis on her legs but I need another xray for sure.

By negative I mean, if I let Cilek pee in house then Tilya might also think that it is ok to pee. That would make lots of pee then
Using diapers sounds sad to me, I don't know, it just sounds sad.
I may found dog diapers, I checked and amazon ships to Turkey.
But won't she feel bad about it? This is totally new to me, I never considered about it, I need to make some search.

Today I saw that she also peed on her bed This means she can't control it.

I think I will do the same. I already bought some mattress pads and will try them.
I'll check that supplement. Thanks a lot.

Now Cilek is not on any meds, just supplements. I was already planning to take her to a vet for her leg problems. There I'll also ask about pain. Incontinence is totally new to me. I didn't even know that there are meds for it.
I agree with you about the side effects.

    I know what you mean.

With Hershey, his behavior told me that he wasn't happy. I figured that the two pain meds he was on weren't really controlling his pain. He was also obviously freaked out when he lost control of his legs. He was already hiding in his bed a lot and I figured the diapers would send him over the edge...so I spared him that. I tell myself that I let him die with what dignity he had left. Hersh was the kind of dog who knew who he was and didn't have to prove anything to anybody...he was just a great self-assured but not arrogant easy-going dog. And then "he" disappeared. No-brainer for me.

But it sounds like Cilek still enjoys her life, yes? The diapers might be sad for you (believe me...I do understand what you mean) but not faze her one bit. I mean...look at all of the dogs we know or at least see or hear about who live their lives hooked up to carts after accidents or whatever and seem to be enjoying themselves. (Remember Nancy's dog Daisy? I know you do.) That logic didn't work on me with Hershey but life enjoyment is a big factor. And who knows...she just might get to like all the attention she'll get if she's wearing pretty (pink?) panties over her diapers....
