    Found two 'lost' labs

My property borders a few thousand acres of public (BLM) land. Every day I walk out the back gate to hike, ski, run, walk with Thor. I occasionally run into other neighbors and their pups, but mostly we have it to ourselves.

Today we were about 2 miles out and these two dogs that I didn't recognize came running up. They were friendly, tails wagging, and doing that whole doggy greeting thing appropriately with Thor. I figured there was someone walking or on a bike who they were with, but as I waited no one showed up. I detoured from my normal path to go near another neighborhood since I figured they might be from there and would go home. Nope, they just followed us and hung around like they were my dogs. They followed us for four miles, all the way back to my back gate and to my front door.

I texted some neighbors, no one recognized them. Gave them some water and some food which they were happy to get. They had collars but no tags which makes me think they might have been dumped. But they were such good, friendly, well behaved dogs. Every command that I would call out for Thor ("come, leave it, sit, etc") they would obey too. One was a pure lab - nearly a twin of Thor in shape and size, just black. The other one was a lab mix with a streak of white on her chest.

I called the Humane Society and the sheriff came out to get them. I hope that they have a family looking for them, and if not, they should be able to find a good home based on my limited impression of them. And no, I want ONE more dog right now, not two. These are clearly a bonded pair. Look at these two sweet happy wigglebutts.

Good looking pups! Thank you so much for helping them out. Hopefully their owner finds them.

From previous experience, after some kids stopped by asking if a yellow lab was mine (nope) she was taken to the local AC. FYI, our local AC is a very good one. Owner showed up first thing the next morning when the AC opened. They were folks who were visiting family in our town and one of the kids left a door open too long. They had been out half the night looking.

I agree on the "lost" aspect of their being out there. I don't understand how some people can take that "easy way out" for dogs they no longer want. Grrrr......

Good thing for those two that they ran into you before they ran into trouble.

I can't imagine anyone dumping these two, or any dog for that matter. Those look like two well cared for dogs, let's hope they were chipped and can find their people really quick!

Did you look for a tattoo in the ear of the one? Hope they are chipped if no tattoo. I found the owners of every friendly dog I was able to lay hands on, hope that will be the case here as well. Good for you for looking out for them.

Do you have a "Lost Dogs of Oregon" website or something similar? If so I'd recommend putting their picture there and a description of each as well as the contact info for the humane society. I can't imagine these two being dumped.......I'm hoping they were on a walk with their owner and took off after a bird or something.

I am so much more sensitive to this kind of thing since I got China. And believe me-I was sensitive to begin with but now after seeing what a dog goes through having their life turned upside down... Gosh, can hear my DH saying now that this is exactly what we need- More dogs. Ugh. LOL, hope they get home soon wherever that may be.

We put a tag on gigi on the collar with our cell number for this scenario. a chip scanner is not something everyone has in there pocket. It does wear off so we have a few we swap as they degrade.
my wife would have kept them. Here we do not find any dogs and are stolen more. Here they fix every dog in the north east so puppies are rare and all the rescue import dogs from south or other countries. My neighbor got one from thailand.
